A senior technical product manager is a product manager with a strong technical background that is typically focused on the more technical aspects of the product.

A technical product manager is a business role that is mainly focused on technology as opposed to a technology role that has no responsibility for a product’s market success. A big part of their job is taking business requirements and translating them into technical requirements. Technical product managers identify customer needs, develop strategies to meet customer demands, work with the necessary departments to implement the latest technology, and monitor progress.

TPM is able to provide product vision, create internal roadmap. TPM understand the company’s technology at a deep level. Technical PM works more closely with the engineering team. They are the glue between the business side and technical side of an organization. Responsibilities:
  • Uncover and understand customer needs and translate them into requirements.
  • Ability to work well with internal teams, including developers, engineers, architects, quality assurance, and operations. Ensure requirements are fully understood and that implementation plans match expectations.
  • Understand, research, and follow technical trends in the industry and in general. Able to assess emerging products and companies to measure their potential value or threat to the company and its products, as well as make recommendations on which new technologies to invest in or leverage.
  • Follow competitors and conduct capability analysis regularly.
  • Provide internal and customer training on how to use the product.
  • Answer incoming questions about the product and its capabilities.
  • Assess and address technical risks.
  • Serve as a product evangelist and subject matter expert to the technical/developer community.
  • Coordinate beta tests.
  • Obtain buy-in and engages with other internal teams (e.g., product, engineering, finance, legal, marketing) to help inform and align the strategy.
  • Execute and contribute to designing partner/customer strategic deals for a commercial strategic framework that are aligned with strategic business objectives and partner/customer current state and needs at an appropriate motion and cadence.
  • Ensure strategic deals incorporate relevant market factors (e.g., competitive, economic, industry specific) to contribute to optimal results and return on investment. Help to empower a strong customer presence through a deep customer focus and strategic development, attracting and committing customers to the journey through integration of customer feedback. Maintain a strong customer focus throughout strategic development and brings customer along for the journey.
  • Integrate information from prior engagements and learnings to build an improved strategy.
  • Drives deal opportunities to formal contract negotiations. Identifies negotiation scenarios and escalates as appropriate. Finalizes partnership agreements using unique contract frameworks.
  • Identifies market opportunities based on industry gaps and emerging trends in solution/product areas. Leverages internal competitive intelligence to identify opportunities aligned with business goals.
  • Engages partners and develops a trusted-advisor relationship with partners to establish strategic alignment and drive growth. Understands and aligns partners' priorities, strategies, and goals with IIAI’s to build mutually beneficial account plans. Executes regular partner reviews and quarterly business reviews to track plan execution, identified gaps, and agrees on any correction of errors.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience with product management, program management
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/computer science
  • Strong technical capability with Data Analytics/Big Data, Machine Learning, Image Recognition/AI, Application Development, Public Cloud / Private Cloud
  • Prior experience in vendor/consulting environment, strong client facing experience
  • Hands on experience on technology sales (end to end from engagement to close)
  • Strong problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical problems
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) across all levels
  • Independent player and team working spirit
