Functioning as a pivotal member of the legal team, overseeing and providing counsel on the organization\'s legal affairs, encompassing ship/sale purchase (SNP), charter party contracts and disputes, insurance claims, vendor agreements, ship financing, and other commercial issues with Flag, Class, and Underwriters.
Furnishing expert legal guidance to diverse departments such as SNP, Operations, Chartering, and Finance, which includes comprehensive corporate and commercial advisory support for the entire company.
Orchestrating the litigation management of contentious disputes through collaboration with an external panel of legal counsels and law firms in key international shipping markets, overseeing both ongoing and emerging arbitration/court proceedings.
Conducting compliance and regulatory due diligence, offering sanctions advice on counterparties, vessels, and corporate authorities. Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating legal and compliance risks, both contractual and otherwise.
Active participation in international conferences, seminars, and meetings related to legal and compliance matters, with a role that involves speaking engagements to share insights and expertise.
Requirements
LL.M. in maritime law or commercial law preferable; LL.B. or equivalent bachelor\'s degree in law required.
A minimum of ten years of post-qualification experience acquired in maritime law firms where successful dispute resolution has been demonstrated.
Former position as internal legal counsel for a company that owns ships.
Skilled IT user competent to operate on several IT platforms (MS Office + In-house systems).
Able to approach legal matters commercially.
Exceptionally organized, self-disciplined, self-motivated, fiercely persuasive, and a strong negotiator with a keen eye for details (perfection), thoroughness of work, and an intense desire to win.
