Today, we deliver hundreds of millions of food orders, grocery items and other products per year, to our customers in nine countries throughout the region with more than 3,000+ employees! Our food delivery business works with over 27,000 brands and almost 50,000 branches, while our q-commerce concept, talabat mart, now delivers groceries to customers in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman Qatar, and the UAE in 30 minutes or less!

As Senior Engineering Manager, you will work on our next generation ordering platform to create a smooth and easy ordering experience for our customers.

Core Responsibilities:

Lead and inspire talented engineers and create an environment where a cross-functional, self-organized team can thrive, working in an agile software development environment to discover innovate, implement, deploy and own end-to-end complex software solutions

Develop and grow engineering talent through effective mentoring, coaching, and retention strategies in a hyper-growing, highly competitive economic environment

Guide your team in creation of software as an end to end solution to a problem, taking into account non-functional requirements such as availability, scalability, latency and efficiency of talabat's services in line with our internal engineering standards.

Guide your team's discovery, planning and execution to successfully deliver value to our customers in small batches

Understand and lead your business domain and work with product as well as the business stakeholders to drive desired outcomes on the team and domain level

Contribute to the wider tech organization by leading strategic initiatives

The following experience is relevant to us

8+ years of experience in software engineering

4+ years of hands-on technical leadership, people management experience

Experience building & leading cross-functional, empowered and self-organized teams of multidisciplinary engineers

Align with other teams on initiative scope, domain and boundaries

Analyze and identify possible initiative delays and ensure appropriate communication with team stakeholders

Successfully transfer knowledge through teaching, mentoring and coaching

Drive for clarity to ensure that the right customer/business problem is addressed

Solid experience building large-scale applications using modern programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Go, etc.).

Wide experience in different technology stacks, tools, and practices such as DevOps.

Solid experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and scaling of web apps and APIs

Experience building iOS and Android mobile apps

Experience working with agile practices and good understanding of lean/agile values & principles

Experience in unit-testing, TDD, BDD/ATDD

Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS

Solid experience of building applications in distributed systems architecture (Microservices, Event-Driven, SOA andRESTful Services)

Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Redis, DynamoDb).

Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques

Ensures quality, performance, monitoring, alerting and security using best practices
