:
This role combines core structural/mechanical engineering capability with strong project cost estimation expertise to support the Design Team during the enquiry and tendering phase. The primary objective is to significantly strengthen the accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness of cost estimates and technical offers, while maintaining sufficient engineering depth to validate concepts, assumptions, and design feasibility. Approximately 70% of the role focuses on project cost estimation and commercial-technical coordination with various stakeholders, with the remaining 30% covering selected engineering and analytical tasks. Engineering and project execution role supported by lead engineer, where coordination of sub-contractors is done beside the own hands-on design work. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical & structural engineering principles, as well as experience in the design, manufacturing, and project management. Experience from port cranes is expected. This role requires also understanding of 3D-modeling techniques and drawing work. Strength calculation and FEA experience are benefit but not obligatory. The Engineer will leverage their technical expertise to conduct in-depth assessments, develop innovative solutions, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment throughout its extended lifespan.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Develop, review, and continuously improve project cost estimates during the enquiry and tender stages.
Prepare and maintain detailed cost models (initially Excel-based, transitioning to ERP-based estimation tools) for mechanical & structural projects and manufacturing products.
Ensure estimates are complete, realistic, and aligned with technical assumptions
Support preparation of technical-commercial offers, ensuring consistency between scope, pricing, and exclusions.
Break down project scope into cost elements covering:
Engineering and design effort
Materials and fabrication
Subcontracted services
Logistics, transport, and customs
Installation, testing, commissioning, and site activities
Project management, risk, contingencies, and overheads
Taxes, duties, and regional compliance-related costs
Improve estimation methodologies, templates, and assumptions databases.
Support the transition from Excel-based estimation to future ERP estimation modules.
Capture lessons learned from executed projects and feed them back into enquiry estimates.
Standardize cost breakdown structures (CBS) aligned with engineering work breakdown structures (WBS).
Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to drive successful project execution.
Provide technical guidance and support to various segments of WCS business including manufacturing products and testing, research development teams.
Design or validate & approve the relevant designed parts for manufactured products and WCS services like upgrades and refurbishments.
Provide solutions to extend the useful life of cranes, such as structural modifications, maintenance schedules and improvements.
Understanding of crane standards like EN 13001 and FEM 1.001 is a benefit.
Understanding of civil engineering standards like Eurocodes, AISCs and IBC is a benefit.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Implement and monitor WCS' HSE compliance policy.
Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviours in harmony with DP World's Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World's Code of Conduct and Ethics policies
