Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to specialize in high-voltage electrical substation design. In this role, you will be the technical lead for all civil/structural aspects of substation projects, from conceptual design and feasibility studies through construction support and commissioning. You will ensure that our substation facilities are designed to be safe, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant with all relevant codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Design:
• Lead the civil and structural design for greenfield and brownfield substation projects, including foundation systems (spread footings, drilled piers, piles), structural steel supports, control buildings, equipment pads, oil containment systems, grading, drainage, and site development.
• Prepare and review detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations using software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation,

, RISA-3D, or SAP2000. * Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and material lists for the civil/structural portion of projects.

• Project Management:
• Act as the Civil/Structural Lead on multi-disciplinary projects, coordinating with internal teams (electrical, protection & control) and external stakeholders (clients, vendors, contractors).
• Manage project deliverables, ensuring they are on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Code Compliance & Standards:
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (e.g., IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, IEEE, NESC).
• Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in substation design.
• Construction Support:
• Provide support during the construction phase, including responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing submittals, and performing site visits to resolve design-related issues.
• Collaborate with construction managers to ensure designs are implemented correctly and safely.
• Quality Assurance:
• Perform and oversee rigorous quality control checks on all design packages and calculations produced by the team.
• Conduct peer reviews of work done by other engineers.

Qualifications & Experience
Required:

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in civil/structural engineering, with a strong focus on high-voltage electrical substation design.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
• Proven expertise in the design of substation foundations, structural supports, and site development.
• Proficiency with industry-standard design and analysis software (e.g.,

, RISA-3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, MicroStation). * In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards (IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC).

• Excellent technical writing skills for creating specifications, reports, and calculations.
• Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

• Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Structural Engineer (S.E.) license.
• Experience with seismic design and analysis.
• Experience with underground transmission or distribution systems.
• Proven ability to lead a project team and mentor junior staff.
