Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in the electrical design, analysis, and project management of high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) overhead transmission lines. You will play a key role in leading projects, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the delivery of technically excellent and compliant designs from conception through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design & Engineering:

• Lead the electrical design and specification of HV & EHV overhead transmission lines (typically 69kV to 500kV+).
• Perform and review key electrical calculations, including:
• Insulation Coordination: Selection of insulator strings and clearances.
• Electrical Loadings: Sag-tension calculations for different loading scenarios (wind, ice, temperature).
• Corona and Radio Interference (RI)/Audible Noise (AN) analysis and mitigation.
• Electric and Magnetic Field (EMF) analysis.
• Lightning Performance and grounding design analysis.
• Thermal Rating (Ampacity) studies.
• Develop and review technical specifications for conductors, insulators, hardware, and accessories.
• Select appropriate tower configurations and determine line routing considerations from an electrical perspective.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, CIGRE, EN, BS, client-specific standards).

Project Leadership & Management:

• Act as the Technical Lead or Project Engineer on major OHL projects, managing budget, schedule, and quality.
• Coordinate with structural engineers, civil teams, surveyors, and environmental planners to deliver integrated designs.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory bodies throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare and review detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and tender documentation.

Bid Support & Business Development:

• Provide technical expertise during the bid phase, contributing to proposal writing and methodology development.
• Estimate engineering man-hours and resource requirements for new projects.

Team Mentorship & Standards:

• Provide guidance, training, and technical oversight to junior and graduate engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement by developing and updating company design standards, specifications, and best practices.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies (e.g., High-Temperature Low-Sag conductors, GIL alternatives), and advancements in OHL design.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of proven experience in the electrical design of HV/EHV overhead transmission lines.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or the ability to obtain one within a year.
• Deep, practical knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, IEC, NESC, etc.).
• High proficiency in industry-standard software tools (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, TOWER, Sag10, CDEGS).
• Strong project management skills and a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly.

Desirable:

• Experience with EHV projects (345kV and above).
• Experience working on international projects.
• Knowledge of line uprating and refurbishment projects.
• Familiarity with related fields such as substation interconnection, system studies (using software like PSSE or ETAP), and HVDC transmission.
• Experience with 3D modelling and BIM processes.
