Job Description

1.1 Job Scope Summary

The Senior Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally emission, and efficient daily operation of the centrally controlled EfW system with its associated auxiliaries and functions. He is responsible to operate the plant from the main control room using the Distributed Control System (DCS) and associated manual systems, safely including operating the overhead cranes.

1.2 Job Responsibilities

The Senior Control Room Operator follows established operating procedures, and does not deviate from these procedures during normal operating conditions except as directed. The Senior CRO performs assigned routine inspections and manipulative operations without close supervision within well-defined boundaries. The Senior CRO conducts daily operational activities of the Plant Operator.

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Safely and efficiently shuts down and restarts production, safety and utility plant when required, as per plant operating procedures and parameters
  • Observes proper operating procedures concerning time and load when bringing a piece of equipment into service
  • Controls operating parameters from the distributed control system either manually or automatically, as required
  • Records all equipment changes and any abnormal or unusual conditions that may exist on any piece of assigned equipment
  • Performs daily routine inspections, plant walk down including filling out necessary log sheets and writing maintenance work requests as needed
  • Responsible for cleanliness of equipment and an orderly work area around crane and hoist
  • Assists the Shift Supervisor in the preparation of equipment lockouts and tagouts in support of maintenance activities
  • Performs additional tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor
  • Liaises closely with the maintenance team on the delivery of planned and unplanned maintenance activities of cranes
  • Reports promptly any breaches of HSE procedures to management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health, safety & environmental campaigns, initiatives, policies, and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times
  • Provides support as part of the installation emergency response team
  • Notifies Shift Supervisors of defective operating or material conditions

1.3 Educational/Professional Qualifications/Training Certifications
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineer or equivalent degree
1.4 Job Experience
  • Minimum to 5 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of EfW (Energy from Waste) or power plant equipment and systems.
  • Specific expertise in resource recovery material handling and waste processing is preferred.
  • HSE accredited training qualifications
  • Preferably having an ASME/pressure vessel certificate
  • Crane Certification is ideal or able to obtain one

1.6 Additional Job skills and Competencies
  • Familiar with HSE standards, procedures, and requirements and control plant operations in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the principles of operation, a function of steam boilers, theory and chemistry of combustion, boiler water quality control, turbine-generators, continuous emissions monitoring equipment, and auxiliary equipment and systems
  • Must have a clear understanding of equipment interlocks, alarms and trips and must understand how the various plant control loops respond
  • Must have completed an operator training program requirement for the position or must have had equivalent power plant work-related experience.
  • Must have the ability to react quickly and with good judgment during emergencies.
  • Language: English (Intermediate)
