The Senior Contract Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing the contractual and commercial aspects of construction projects. They are responsible for preparing, evaluating, negotiating, and managing contracts throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company standards. This role requires in-depth knowledge of construction contracts (FIDIC or other relevant standards), strong negotiation skills, and the ability to support project teams in managing risk and ensuring timely project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review contract documents, subcontracts, and purchase agreements in line with project requirements and legal standards.
Interpret contract terms and conditions to ensure the project team understands their obligations and rights.
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate contractual risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Support tendering and procurement activities, including drafting and issuing tender documents and evaluating subcontractor bids.
Participate in contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
Monitor contract compliance by all parties and manage any disputes or claims that arise.
Draft and manage variations, extensions of time (EOTs), and change orders.
Provide contract administration support and advice to the project management team.
Liaise with legal advisors on complex contractual issues and claims.
Prepare and maintain accurate contract records and reports.
Ensure adherence to applicable laws, standards (e.g., FIDIC), and company policies.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
Professional certification (MRICS, PMP, or similar) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum 7-10 years of relevant experience in contract management within the construction industry.
Proven experience in handling FIDIC or other standard construction contracts.
Experience in large-scale infrastructure or building projects is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong understanding of construction contract law and contract administration.
Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under pressure.
High attention to detail and analytical thinking.
Proficient in MS Office, contract management software, and project management tools.
