ENGIE North Africa is hiring a Senior Business Developer Thermal. As part of team in the North Africa Region based in Casablanca, you will report to the Business Development VP Thermal AMEA and to the MD T&S Africa. The purpose of this position is to lead the identification, evaluation, development and delivert of business growth opportunities which fit AMEA strategic objectives and deliver financial performance based on the Group's financial criteria and risk allocation based on the structured deal. These business development (BD) opportunities will primarily be focused on new activities in Northern Africa related to low carbon power generation (multiple generation technologies including but not limited to battery storage, green gases) , gas / hydrogen-related infrastructure projects, desalination plants (RO) or transmission networks, arising through;
  • Greenfield development (either bids or bilateral transactions)
  • Acquisitions
  • Brownfield development
  • Other energy-related technology developments
As the project manager for an approved development, you will direct and supervise all activities and team members (legal, engineering, finance) identified to deliver the project.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities :
  • Developing and maintaining a current knowledge of the power, desalination (RO) and gas sectors in Northern Africa, mapping of competitors, potential partners, key stakeholders and regulatory evolutions in the region.
  • Pro-actively carrying out prospection, screening/evaluating and proposing opportunities
  • Assessing project feasibility, preparing and presenting the project file and related documentation to the relevant decision bodies within the Group for securing approvals in line with the investment criteria and internal BD procedures
  • Contributing to develop a successful bid/proposal strategy
  • Leading a project team and managing all development activities performed by internal and external resources till achievement of financial close / handover to construction
  • Leading negotiations of all project agreements (JDA, SHA, PPA and/or WPA, EPC and supply contracts, Finance Documentation, etc.)
  • Leading negotiations with clients, partners, contractors, external advisors, lenders, and other counterparts
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts with decision makers and other relevant stakeholders in the industry
  • Ensuring compliance with prevailing BD procedures and contributing to a smooth approval process: draft and coordinate internal project documentation (project assumptions, Investment Note, compliance memos…) and organizing and leading project reviews, bid sign-off, return on experience, handover, …
  • Being accountable for and apply best BD practices
  • Being accountable for identified BD targets and KPIs (incl. BD objectives in yearly budget)
  • Contributing to the yearly budget development plan (both CAPEX and development budget)
  • Performing transversal tasks within the business development community, including knowledge transfer and interaction with various internal stakeholders
  • Being accountable for and apply best BD practices
  • Being accountable for identified BD targets and KPIs (incl. BD objectives in yearly budget)
  • Contributing to the yearly budget development plan (both CAPEX and development budget)
  • Performing transversal tasks within the business development community, including knowledge transfer and interaction with various internal stakeholders

Qualifications

Education: A Master degree in Finance, Economics or Engineering. Experience & Skills:
  • 8-12 years of relevant working experience within the power generation industry
  • 4-6 years of BD experience, with demonstrable track record in the development and implementation of non-recourse financed IPPs
  • Previous experience in the energy sector in Northern Africa
  • Experience in the following technologies: power, water desalination, gas, Battery storage, Hydrogen
  • Result-oriented, energy and drive to meet personal objectives, with an open, transparent style and flexible approach.
  • Autonomous
  • Ability to work within tight timelines and to affirm project leadership
  • Ability to work and report remotely
  • International, multicultural and multidisciplinary experience.
  • Strong intellectual capacity and able to deal with complexity
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, and other soft skills including mentoring, being a team player, ability to work with diverse experts and seek consensus
  • Presence and interpersonal credibility to represent ENGIE in contacts with key stakeholders, JV partners, external organizations and/or bodies and other stakeholders
Location/travel
  • Place of residence: Casablanca, Morocco
  • Frequent travel through Northern Africa or to project site as required
  • Primary focus will be Northern Africa
  • Contract: full time, permanent
