The Position
The Senior Automation & Control System Engineer would be a valued member of a proactive, agile and highly effective team working to deliver outstanding results on an international platform. This person is the responsible discipline controls engineer for the project team. The person is responsible to maintain professional competency through continuing education and professional development. This person is responsible for designing, engineering and testing automation & control systems. His/her job is to make sure these critical systems and processes designed, engineered and fabricated effectively, efficiently and safely. The person needs to work closely with companies who manufacturer and supply automation & control systems equipment and for the end users/Clients.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • To be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all Automation & Control System hardware, system infrastructure and networks
  • Good understanding of Control System Architecture, Work flow and interfaces with programming
  • To lead all of the company\xe2\x80\x99s system integration efforts from a design through to handover
  • Designing and developing automation & control systems
  • Troubleshooting and modifying brownfield systems
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers, engineering manager and project managers and other internal staff
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers, fabricators, and subcontractors
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with relevant safety and quality standards and applicable project and international codes and standards
  • Prepare estimates and schedules of work from inception to completion of projects
  • Prepare scopes of work, work packages, stage gate criteria, and other project execution components.
  • Work closely with engineering manager for resource allocation, review and checking of work assigned to junior engineering and drafting staff
  • Development of functional specifications, system and component selection, design drawings and calculations against layouts, control schematics, wiring distribution schemes, HMI and PLC systems, etc
  • Lead in the design of the physical layout and architecture of control systems, equipment design & specification, and functional plans related to the various facilities within the plant
  • Develop cost effective solutions in line with the project and client specifications
  • Knowledge of IoT solutions
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity solutions in line with IEC 62443
  • Organize and run factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) for control systems
  • Work with internal processes consistent with corporate standards and policies, and also a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Participate in technical bid evaluation to support the selection of control system equipment.
  • Assist Engineering manager in the development of automation & control system project schedules and manpower requirements
  • Work in a multinational, multicultural team environment
  • Develop the skills of junior and intermediate engineers, designers and programmers
  • Complies to and promotes the standards and procedures of the Drakken Health and Safety manual and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
  • Develop and maintain the company\xe2\x80\x99s automation strategy, work closely with partner OEMs to develop staff\xe2\x80\x99s technical skills
Education Required:
  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma, engineering related
Experience Required:
  • Emerson DeltaV system (expert level)
  • Allen Bradley Control Logix (moderate)
  • 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the Control System a minimum
  • Expert level understanding and experience in system hardware and software
  • Ability to understand PFD, P&IDs, Cause & Effect and logics
  • High level of expertise on network infrastructure & hardware
  • High level of experience in IT/OT convergence
  • LOPA, HAZOP, SIS validation experience is an asset
  • Experience in communication protocols Modbus, Profibus, Fieldbus
  • Experience in Emerson MAS (legacy GE) is an asset
  • OEM training certificates are a plus
  • Experience in modifying existing brownfield control system
  • Experience in interface engineering with Electrical, Instrumentation and 3rd part process packages
Skills Required:
  • Working knowledge of IEC Standards and International Codes.
  • Distributed control systems (DCS)
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLC)
  • Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
  • Good understanding of technologies being used in Oil & Gas (onshore & offshore), Utility projects
  • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office software, and other Company and discipline specific software applications
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company
