Job Description

The Senior Associate is responsible for producing Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) analysis and screening on a given portfolio of companies, in line with MESG assessment framework. This role will be focused on specific sectors and/or activities and will represent this subject matter expertise both internally and externally. The candidate is expected to contribute to the gathering of quantitative and qualitative data, synthesising and analysing the results of such data collected in line with our method guidelines. This data is used directly and indirectly by financial market participants to support their responsible investment strategy, whether as a standalone research, or through derivative products and services.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as subject-matter expert across all sectors, themes or industries covered within the assigned research line, demonstrating advanced-level understanding of the methodology, process, and overall research framework;
  • Spearheading innovative research that tracks the evolving interaction between financial materiality and sustainability; and understand which data points, sources and indicators are relevant to investors to collect;
  • Analysis and interpretation of large amounts of ESG and economic data, identification of key trends and behaviours and transformation of such data into meaningful information that respond to customer needs.
  • Training and development of expertise to upskill research teams
  • Key contributor to the implementation of the quality management framework to ensure that the research output of the team is fit for purpose to help decision-makers act with confidence in the data we deliver;
  • Review, correct and validate data entries prior to client delivery, and within tight deadlines;
  • Prepare and review submissions for publication, high-value reports, thought leadership pieces, methodology notes, etc.; and
  • Provide knowledge support in sales, internal and external stakeholders, and client relationship activities;
  • Support continuous improvement of MESGS processes and methodology.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in disciplines such as environmental science, political science, human rights, or similar; post-graduate (Master’s) and/or 5 years experience in related discipline (Sustainability, CSR, Sustainable Finance, ESG);
  • At least 5 years work experience in ESG research and consultancy or related fields;
  • Effective problem-solver, and able to simplify complexity;
  • Excellent proficiency of written and spoken English (working language), with ability to analyse, synthesise and editing skills;
  • Knowledge of other languages (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) is desirable;
  • Able to collect, manipulate and meaningfully analyse large scale quantitative and qualitative data;
  • Proficient in technical document research and information organisation;
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), ideally with proven ability to manage large datasets in Excel;
  • Team spirit, communication, and good listening skills
ESG Analytics
The ESG Analytics team delivers analytical and production capacity in a centralized manner to meet the needs of all MESG’s business lines. In addition to conducting analytical work, team members serve as Subject Matter Experts regarding ESG data, analytics and opinion.
