The senior accountant oversees the general accounting operations of four subsidiaries across the Middle East, with specific focus on the general ledger and financial reporting.
The position reports to the regional finance manager and is supported by a junior accountant.
The ideal candidate has experience in month end closing, reporting, taxes, understanding of retail business and developing junior colleagues.
Job responsibilities
Accounting & Reporting
Manage the full spectrum of accounting activities up to finalization of accounts.
Handle month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations, adjustments, and provisions.
Prepare and review the monthly P&L and Balance Sheet in accordance with IFRS.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of all general ledger accounts.
Oversee the AP and AR functions.
Procure to Pay Cycle: as procurement business partner and SAP PO key user, closely working with the functional department heads
Compliance & Audit
Coordinate with internal and external auditors for statutory and internal audits.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, IFRS principles and local regulations.
Prepare supporting documentation and schedules for external auditors.
Financial Analysis & Support
Support the Finance Manager and Finance Director with management reports and budget variance analysis.
Recommend process improvements for better accuracy, efficiency, and cost control.
VAT, Withholding and Corporate Tax
Ensure the accuracy of accounting for VAT entries.
Timely submission of VAT returns to FTA.
Ensure compliance with UAE Corporate Tax regulations, including timely preparation and submission of tax returns
Liaise with tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities on all corporate tax matters.
General
Train and mentor junior accounting staff.
Participate in cross-functional projects to improve business processes and systems.
Serve as a point of contact for accounting-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Profile
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a reputable organization, ideally in a fast-moving customer-facing environment
Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging with senior stakeholders
Proven expertise in IFRS, taxation, financial reporting, and treasury
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle), and advanced Excel
Accuracy and attention to detail
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
Relevant accounting certification will be preferred
