Job Description
We are currently hiring experienced Bird Keepers. As part of the bird keeper team, The Bird Department requires the care of a taxonomically diverse collection. Observe and evaluate animals for illness, injury, and abnormal behavior in addition to feeding and watering birds. Monitoring animal behavior and welfare. Participate in avian capture and restraint. Maintaining detailed behavioral, reproductive, and medical records and reports. Serving as a mentor to Bird department interns. Works cooperatively with other departments including maintenance, horticulture, education, and events. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Senior Bird Keeper and the Curator. The successful candidate will have:
- A degree level qualification in a zoological related science or equivalent experience
- A proven track record of caring for and managing a variety of Birds in a zoo or safari park setting, which includes large mammal species as well as the highest standards of exhibits
- An excellent observer with excellent attention to detail
- A working knowledge of environmental enrichment
- Working knowledge of safe working practices
- Abu Dhabi: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
