Reference #993 Our client is a leading Qatari Holding Group with diversified global business interests within the Hospitality, Real Estate, Industrial, Investment Management and Financial Services sectors. This Group is currently undergoing major business transformation change introduced to support corporate governance objectives, business growth and to bring the group to a world standard. Our client now seeks to recruit a Risk & Governance Manager to:
  • Oversee the Investment Department\xe2\x80\x99s comprehensive risk management program, assessing and identifying risks that could impede the profitability, reputation, and/or financial success of the Department.
  • Guide investment evaluation, monitoring and implementation of a business-wide risk management framework including presentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Oversee the assessment and quantification of financial and process risks and find ways to reduce / mitigate risks through planning and problem-solving.
  • Oversee research activities relative to risk assessment or risk evaluation and evaluate how the company evaluates risk historically.
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and managing 1 direct report, this role is responsible for the following:
  • Develop a comprehensive integrated risk management framework for the entire company to identify, assess and mitigate financial, operational and regulatory risks across various investment portfolios for operating procedures.
  • Review and assess risk management policies and protocols and provide recommendations and implement modifications and improvements.
  • Recommend and implement risk management solutions including insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans or recovery measures.
  • Manage risk assessment processes across the company and define risk limits and develop quantification methodologies.
  • Develop risk mitigation plans and monitor progress of risk mitigation activities.
  • Develop, manage and refine qualitative and quantitative risk reporting which meets the needs of the executive team to support effective decision making.
  • Ensure all business and investment initiatives align with the company\xe2\x80\x99s core values and culture.
  • Analyse risks with the investment team for new investment opportunities to prepare Risk Assessment Memorandums for the Investment Committee.
  • Work with investment teams to define, monitor and implement risk assessment measures across the life of investments including:
  • Provide an independent view regarding proposed investment business plans.
  • Support the development of detailed short, medium-, and long-term targets for each portfolio investment against which to measure actual performance.
  • Assist management teams to identify and address key issues.
  • Monitor Limits of Authority and Portfolio Limits and report breaches to the CIO and management.
  • Oversee regular risk assessments and monitor the risk management processes for effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for risk management and governance and ensure compliance across the Investment Department.
  • Collaborate with other Departments, such as Finance, Audit, Compliance, and Legal, to align the risk management framework with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and report on key risk indicators and present reports to the Board and senior management.
  • Respond to and manage risk-related incidents, including investigations and resolution of problems.
  • Participate in the development of the Department\xe2\x80\x99s strategic plans and provide guidance on risk management considerations to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Conduct risk management education and training with management and employees.
  • Work closely with the Chief Internal Auditor to establish and maintain corporate governance systems and committee structures and review and confirm investment processes.
  • Assist the CIO in ensuring that the Risk Management team operates within approved budgets
  • Deliver timely and meaningful risk management reports to the executive team in relation to risk management and agreed timetables and schedules.
  • Build key relationships with key customers, clients, partners, vendors, subsidiaries and related company and key stakeholders.
  • Review and submit periodic reports to the Chief Investment Officer, the Chief Executive Officer, the Board of Directors and Board Committees.
  • Analyse internal operations, identify areas of process enhancement, monitor performance and establish corrective measures, generate reports and assess and implement new technologies.
  • Supervise direct reports in daily tasks and guide performance including guiding the CIO on hiring and promotions within the department.
The attributes we seek for this role comprise:
  • Bachelor in Business, Finance, Economics or related discipline is required with a post graduate qualification in Masters level being highly desirable. Candidates with a CFA Level II or III certification is a plus.
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 of risk and strategy management experience in a finance services institution or the banking sector. Candidates must have exposure to credit and investment risk and have a solid grasp or data analysis and performance metrics.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of developing risk controls associated with investments, banking, credit, and/or payments sectors (crypto a plus).
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing (ATF) regulations.
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential would MS Visio being a plus.
  • Candidates must possess superior interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills.
  • Must possess the capacity to deal with conflicting priorities and deliver high quality work on schedule and can work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries.
  • Fluency in English with Arabic language abilities being highly regarded.
