Job Description

Job Summary: The Rigger is responsible for safely lifting, moving, positioning, and securing heavy loads using cranes, hoists, winches, and other rigging equipment. They ensure that all rigging operations comply with safety regulations and engineering specifications. Riggers work in various industries, including construction, shipbuilding, oil & gas, manufacturing, and entertainment (stage rigging). Key Responsibilities: 1. Rigging Operations:

• Inspect and prepare loads for lifting, ensuring proper weight distribution and balance.
• Select appropriate rigging gear (slings, shackles, chains, wire ropes, spreader bars) based on load weight, size, and shape.
• Attach and detach loads to cranes, hoists, or other lifting equipment safely.
• Signal crane operators or hoist operators to control movement of loads.
• Ensure compliance with load charts and manufacturer specifications.

2. Equipment Inspection & Maintenance:

• Inspect rigging hardware (hooks, slings, cables, pulleys) before use to ensure they are in safe working condition.
• Report damaged or defective equipment and remove it from service.
• Perform routine maintenance on rigging tools and accessories.

3. Safety & Compliance:

• Follow OSHA, ANSI, and company safety procedures at all times.
• Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or falling during transport.
• Use tag lines, guide ropes, or other methods to control load movement.
• Work with spotters or signalers to ensure safe maneuvering in tight spaces.

4. Site Preparation & Coordination:

• Assist in setting up and dismantling rigging systems at job sites.
• Coordinate with crane operators, forklift drivers, and other team members.
• Ensure work area is clear of hazards before lifting operations.

5. Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain records of rigging equipment inspections and load certifications.
• Report incidents, near misses, or safety violations to supervisors.
