The Role
The Manager of Research Services is responsible for oversight of Research Services operations for the firm's Middle East offices. Working closely with the Department's EMEA Director, Senior Director, the Department's centralized Research Resources, Training & Engagement teams, and the larger Knowledge Management & Practice Services group, he/she ensures that the research needs of the lawyers and staff in the office(s) he/she manages are fully met. The Manager promotes the development and utilization of innovative research-related technology to support the Firm's commitment to providing exceptional client service. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibility Performs high-level research and ensures that all requests are responded to in a timely manner and to the highest standards. Collaborates with the Department's centralized Research Resources and Training & Engagement teams to evaluate new research resources, methods, and technology, and to provide related training support to the Firm's lawyers and staff. Collaborates with other Middle East-located business professionals to support their research needs. May provide subject-matter expertise to support one or more of the Firm's practice areas. Keeps abreast of new developments affecting the fields of legal and business research; proactively shares knowledge with teammates. Liaises with Middle East-located vendors and works closely with the Research Resources team on office- or region- specific contract renewals and new purchases. Works closely with the Research Resources team on all Middle East office collection development matters and budget-related processes. POSITION DESCRIPTION o Reviews and approves invoices on a timely basis. o Adheres to Department budget; seeks opportunities to improve Department efficiency and reduce expenses by streamlining operations; o Collaborates with the Firm's larger Knowledge Management & Practice Services group on various initiatives as appropriate or as needed. This may include participating in technology implementation pilot groups and providing detailed feedback on KM projects. o Provides resource-specific and/or technology-specific expertise to support the Firm's innovation efforts, particularly with respect to research analytics and hybrid research/legal workflow tools. o Utilizes the Department's workflow software to record and manage research and some administrative tasks. o Utilizes the Department's ILS system as needed. o Ensures that the Department's physical spaces (print collection, reading, training, and collaboration areas) are well maintained. o Actively participates in Departmental meetings, projects, and initiatives. o Establishes clear expectations with stakeholders o Conducts orientation for new and lateral lawyers and staff. o Performs other related duties as assigned.
