Position Overview
KU is seeking an experienced & highly motivated Research Scientist to lead a funded research as project Principal Investigator (PI) in developing a 6U CubeSat platform for technology demonstration in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
The project objective is to demonstrate the capabilities/performance of a number of space technologies developed at Khalifa University; namely micro propulsion system and advanced space sensors. The project poses a great strategic significance as the 6U CubeSat is considered a suitable platform for future terrestrial as well as deep space explorations. This project also aims to provide multiple research opportunities for undergraduate/postgraduate students to gain and enrich relevant knowledge.
Furthermore, the project is to establish critical know-how in key areas of advanced space technologies to support not only UAE's CubeSat-based constellation vision for telecommunications and remoting sensing, but also potential commercial adaptation as startups/spin-offs.
The CubeSat will be designed, integrated, and tested entirely at Khalifa University under the direct supervision of the project PI. As part of the project, the researcher will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities at the KU Space Technology and Innovation Center - KUSTIC ( ) and will get a unique opportunity to work alongside faculty, researchers, and graduate students from various backgrounds as part of a broader team.
The Research Scientist will also be in charge of KUSTIC's Yahsat Space Lab (YSL) as lab manager; responsible for managing the activities of the lab in line with the University's research and development strategies, and carrying out the internationally competitive research thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University.
