ABOUT THE ROLE

Liberty Speciality Steels have an opportunity to join our Rotherham Steel & Bar business unit as Reporting, Controls & Systems Accountant, reporting into the Finance Director for Rotherham Steel & Bar.

Rotherham Steel & Bar is comprised of a steelmaking and casting facility, a rolling mill and two bright bar processing facilities. In addition, there are engineering workshops, selling and administrative departments, and a flux blending facility. The manufacturing assets serve a broad range of internal and external customers, with accreditation to supply into multiple market sectors. There is a wide product offering from carbon steels through to grades for the aerospace industry.

The Reporting, Controls & Systems Accountant will generate monthly management accounts, and supporting reports, that effectively communicate the performance of the Rotherham Steel & Bar business unit. They will also develop internal controls, business intelligence reports, and systems to improve the level of financial reporting in the Business.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements

• Consolidation of business unit results into a RS&B result
• Review, analysis, and reporting of the RS&B monthly profit and loss result
• Supply of information to enable the conversion of management accounts to statutory format
• Actual v plan variance reporting on financials and key physical metrics
• Reconciliation of general ledger accounts, to the agreed frequency
• Monthly balance sheet review, and analysis, reporting of reconciliation differences and issues
• Development and update of standard costs for use in monthly stock valuation
• Review and development of internal controls for asset protection and accurate financial reporting
• Review of reporting requirements and the development of reports using a variety of data sources, including Business Intelligence software solutions
• Development of systems to fix existing configuration, process, and master data problems
• Development of systems to enhance existing functionality
• Collaborate with non finance colleagues to identify root cause of complex problems that manifest in the financial data that drives the financial result and reports
• Supply of data to external auditors and respond to questions
• Supervision, and performance management of the RS&B Financial Accounting section
• Analysis of historical financial information to assist the Finance Business Partners

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED * Graduate with recognised professional qualification (Industry or Practice) e.g., CIMA or ACCA.

• Top 4 accounting firm background an advantage
• 3 or more years post qualification experience
• Construction of financial statements, P&L account, balance sheet, and cash flow
• IFRS & GAAP
• Statutory reporting requirements
• Experience of systems implementations and development of ERP system functionality
• Accounting consolidation
• Internal financial controls
• Ability to manage and intelligently analyse large volumes of data
• Financial modelling and high level of proficiency with spreadsheets
• Able to communicate with colleagues at all levels in the organisation
• Ability to review a business process, identify weaknesses and options to address the problem, and deploy the chosen solution
