Registered Nurse Operating Room
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Operating Room (OR) Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This includes pre-operative, intra-operative, and immediate post-operative care. The OR Nurse collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterile and ready for use.
Assist in patient preparation for surgery, including assessment, positioning, and monitoring vital signs.
Maintain a sterile field and follow strict aseptic techniques during procedures.
Function as a
scrub nurse
orcirculating nurse
depending on surgical needs. Count surgical instruments and supplies before and after the procedure to ensure nothing is retained. Support the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and other items as needed. Document surgical procedures, nursing care, and patient responses accurately in the patient record. Monitor patients during surgery and alert the team to any changes in condition. Provide post-operative care immediately after surgery until patients are transferred to recovery. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent. Current and valid nursing license Minimum 5 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least 3 year in an OR setting preferred. BLS and ACLS certification (PALS may be required depending on the facility). Knowledge of surgical instruments, aseptic technique, and perioperative nursing protocols.
