Responsibilities: xc2xb7 Practice in accordance to the regulator Scope of Practice, ensuring completion of all competencies and required clinical privileging prior to providing direct patient care. xc2xb7 Registered Midwives can provide care to the woman and newborn in different practice settings. xc2xb7 Provide safe and compassionate care during the antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn periods. xc2xb7 Provide safe and EBP care in relation to spontaneous vaginal deliveries (SVD), assist with instrumental vaginal deliveries, and caesarean deliveries (both emergent and elective) for the mother and newborn, reflective of scope of practice, life support provider status and clinical privileging. xc2xb7 Assist the obstetrician with required procedures or perform as per scope of practice, competence, and clinical privileging, such as artificial rupture of membranes (AROM), sterile vaginal examinations. xc2xb7 Monitor the progress of labouring mothers, performs CTG monitoring and interprets findings of foetal heart rates and recognises when to escalate to the obstetrician, reflective of scope of practice, competence, and clinical privileging. xc2xb7 Support women during childbirth, reflective of the woman's birthing plan, is knowledgeable regarding stem cell collection and monitoring in all stages of labour and monitoring the condition of the fetus, reflective of EBP and the WHO Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative. xc2xb7 Perform immediate post-delivery care of the mother to include (but not limited to) fundal massage, placental examination, quantifiable blood loss assessment and monitoring of vital signs, with immediate recognition and escalation to the obstetrician as needed, in accordance to scope of practice. xc2xb7 Perform immediate post-delivery care of the newborn(s) to include (but not limited to) taking of cord blood gases, performing the initial steps of newborn care, newborn identification, physical assessment and monitoring of vital signs, with immediate recognition and escalation to the neonatologist as needed, in accordance to scope of practice. xc2xb7 Support, promote, and protect the ten steps within the WHO Mother Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative recommendations during the antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and newborn periods. xc2xb7 Provide education and support strategies to the mother and newborn that encourage early breastfeeding, and skin-to-skin bonding. xc2xb7 Be responsible for providing and coordinating patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. xc2xb7 Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment. They will work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings. xc2xb7 Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation and escalate immediately when appropriate. xc2xb7 Understand and analyse the assessment information and data. xc2xb7 Determine actual and potential midwifery diagnoses, problems, and issues. xc2xb7 Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care. xc2xb7 Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders. xc2xb7 Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities or deviations as per policy. xc2xb7 Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to midwifery practice. xc2xb7 Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment. xc2xb7 Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations. xc2xb7 Maintain essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope of practice such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, PROMPT, CTG and Neonatal Resuscitation. xc2xb7 In depth knowledge and clinical skills of Obstetric emergencies, midwifery management of such emergencies and care. xc2xb7 Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment. xc2xb7 Administer medications and monitor patients closely for any side effects and reactions, for example during an induction of labour. xc2xb7 Administer treatments such as IV fluids, IV medications and blood products, monitoring patients for any reactions. xc2xb7 Reflective of EBP and when clinically indicated only, perform episiotomy, as per scope of practice, competence, and clinical privileging. xc2xb7 Repair perineal laceration first and second degree as per scope of practice, competence, and clinical privileging. xc2xb7 Provide wound care management, education and support to women following caesarean sections, episiotomy, and vaginal tears. xc2xb7 Assist in medical procedures invasive and non-invasive as needed for the patient and to obtain specimens as ordered. xc2xb7 Facilitate the process of safe patient`s admission, transfer and discharge, inclusive of the mother and newborn. xc2xb7 Provides parents with bereavement support, advice and compassion during end-of-life care in relation to congenital birth defects, loss of pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death. xc2xb7 Complies with regulatory and NMC policy requirements with the disposal of human tissue. Qualifications: Essential: the post holder must xc2xb7 Have an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates. xc2xb7 Manage their own professional re-licensure. xc2xb7 Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card. xc2xb7 Be willing to work across departments when necessary. xc2xb7 Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written) DESIRABLE: The post holder should have: xc2xb7 Evidenced ability to work as part of an inter-professional team. xc2xb7 Organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
