Role Purpose:

To support and maintain internal and external communications with project and business counterparts in the region, implementing agencies, service providers and assisting to execute the communications strategy and maintain project documentation including metrics.

Main Accountabilities:

Regional communication strategy
  • Assists in coordinating communication activities and events of the project and partners.
  • Assists in conducting reputation raising activities, events, social media campaigns etc. for target audiences.
  • Disseminates communication materials to relevant stakeholders.
  • Implements communications strategy and plan, ensuring alignment to regional communications strategy and plan, and effective impact.
  • Supports the delivery of internal and external communications campaigns, advice and activities, ensuring that messages are consistent and support the regional communications strategies.
  • Supports communication of the British Council\'s profile to internal and external stakeholders in region.
  • Ensures that communications maintain the reputation of the British Council.
  • Ensures that communication messages are consistent, are aligned to regional communications strategy and support the British Council brand.
Consultancy, analysis & problem-solving
  • Develops appropriate communications initiatives and interventions to support marketing strategy, business needs, aligned to global and regional communications strategies, plans and approaches.
  • Prepares complex information clearly, producing tailored communication outputs for different channels (social media, traditional media, internal newsletters etc.)
Internal customer focus
  • Builds an in-depth understanding of the region operational context, opportunities and challenges for communications.
  • Proactively seeks internal customer and other stakeholder feedback to monitor satisfaction with the standard of communications/media relations and PR advice and business support provided, enabling improvements to be made where issued are identified.
Service improvement
  • Executes communications projects and initiatives in the region.
  • Ensures consistent application of agreed global communications and brand standards, templates and processes.
  • Monitors impact and effectiveness of communications projects and initiatives, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Functional expertise
  • Provides support with communications to internal customers and other stakeholders across the region.
  • Executes high quality and effective regional communication plans and solutions using established processes, tools and systems to ensure consistency.
  • Proactively pursues an annual cycle of formally recognized Continuing Professional Development to maintain and deepen their professional expertise.
Relationship & stakeholder management
  • Actively participates within the Marketing Community of Practice and communications networks.
  • Develops peer/personal networks within and outside Marketing to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
  • Proactively builds and maintains excellent relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Determines work plans and coordinates input from others (who may be outside the direct management line) to meet specific objectives
About You (essential requirements for the role):
  • Relevant degree e.g. communications, journalism, marketing, or equivalent level of experience
  • Experience in managing communications within a large and complex organisation or agency
  • Experience in providing expert advice and guidance on internal and external communications
  • Experience in managing and mitigating internal and external communications risks and issues
  • Proven record of editorial experience (proofreading, translation, knowledge of different content types, etc.)
  • Demonstrable creative approach to implementing and evaluating communication activities
  • Practical experience of using social media to extend reach of an organisation including through campaigns
