Role Responsibilities
The Rangeland Stewardship and Land Use Policy Section is currently seeking a Provincial Rangeland Specialist. As a prospective incumbent for this role, you will provide technical expertise, provincial consistency and program specialization for the Rangeland Programs and Issues Unit.
Reporting to the Rangeland Program and Issues Lead, the Rangeland Programs Specialist provides technical expertise and program specialization for recreational access on grazing leases, feral horse science and management, support to provincial grazing reserves, terrestrial invasive species and a strong role in ensuring provincial consistency for the implementation of regulatory assurance.
As part of the team, you will have strong creative problem solving to ensure that challenging multi-stakeholder issues can be resolved. You will show drive for results by proactively delivering outcomes and results in an effective and timely manner to meet public and stakeholder expectations. You will take a strategic systems thinking approach to determine how best to stage solutions to complex issues. As the incumbent, you must effectively assess shifting program needs and match with work unit capabilities and priorities. Must be able to demonstrate effective solutions to complex resource management issues at regional and provincial scales. Strong communication skills and effective relationship building abilities are essential.

Qualifications
Required: University graduation in Range Management, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, or a related degree, with appropriate specialization. 3 years related experience. Eligible for membership with the AIA with the ability to work in the rangeland and pasture management practice area.
Equivalency: Related MasteraEUR(TM)s degree considered in lieu of part of the three years of related experience on a one-for-one basis
Assets: Previous leadership, supervisory, and project management experience. Experience using Government of Alberta and ministry specific programs and applications. Change Management. Experience with rangeland ecology, landscape processes and spatial data management. Experience and understanding of livestock grazing industry specifically rangeland program development and the integration with policy.

This position is a 1-year temporary position. The position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; 36.25 hours a week. Some travel will be required for this role.
