Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced
Quantity Surveyor
with a strong background in
structural steel projects
, specializing in the
preparation, analysis, and management of Bills of Quantities (BOQ)
for steel structures. The candidate will be responsible for cost estimation, quantity take-offs, contract administration, and cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
BOQ & Quantity Take-Off
Prepare
detailed BOQs
for structural steel works, including:
Steel fabrication
Erection works
Bolts, plates, bracings, purlins, and accessories
Perform accurate
quantity take-offs
from:
Structural drawings
Shop drawings
GA (General Arrangement) drawings
Verify quantities against IFC drawings and design revisions.
Cost Estimation & Budgeting
Prepare
cost estimates
for steel structures based on BOQs.
Analyze material, fabrication, erection, and transportation costs.
Assist in preparing project budgets and cost plans.
Evaluate cost impacts due to design changes and variations.
Tendering & Contracts
Prepare and review tender documents related to steel works.
Assist in
tender evaluation
, comparison, and negotiations.
Support contract administration, including:
Measurement certification
Interim payment applications
Final account settlement
Cost Control & Reporting
Monitor project costs and track actual vs budgeted quantities.
Prepare
monthly cost reports
and forecasts.
Identify potential cost overruns and suggest corrective actions.
Variations & Claims
Identify, measure, and price
variation orders
related to steel works.
Prepare variation claims and supporting documents.
Evaluate subcontractor claims and variations.
Coordination & Compliance
Coordinate with:
Structural engineers
Fabrication teams
Site engineers
Procurement and planning departments
Ensure BOQs and measurements comply with:
Project specifications
Contract conditions
Industry standards and codes
Required Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
Strong expertise in
BOQ preparation for steel structures
Proficient in interpreting:
Structural drawings
Steel shop drawings
Knowledge of:
Steel fabrication and erection processes
Standard measurement methods
Familiar with steel grades, sections, and connections
Software Skills
AutoCAD (mandatory)
MS Excel (advanced)
Estimation / QS software (preferred):
PlanSwift
CostX
Primavera (basic knowledge an advantage)
Soft Skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and coordination abilities
Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in:
Quantity Surveying
Civil Engineering
Construction Management
Professional certifications (preferred but not mandatory):
RICS
CIOB
Equivalent QS certification
