Job Summary:
The MEP Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all cost and contractual aspects of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) projects. This includes cost estimation, tendering, contract administration, variation management, and financial reporting to ensure projects are completed within budget while maintaining quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Contract Activities:
Prepare cost estimates, BOQs (Bills of Quantities), and tender documents for MEP projects.
Analyze tender documents, contracts, and technical specifications to assess risks and opportunities.
Conduct cost planning, value engineering, and feasibility studies for MEP works.
Assist in procurement strategies, subcontractor selection, and negotiation.
2. Post-Contract & Cost Control:
Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and cost reports to ensure financial control.
Evaluate and process variations, change orders, and claims in line with contract terms.
Review subcontractor invoices, interim payments, and final accounts.
Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve commercial issues.
3. Contract Administration:
Administer FIDIC, NEC, JCT, or other standard contracts related to MEP works.
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, warranties, and insurances.
Handle dispute resolution, delay claims, and extension of time (EOT) requests.
4. Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate cost records, progress reports, and financial forecasts.
Prepare monthly cost reports, risk assessments, and final account statements.
Ensure proper document control for all MEP-related commercial correspondence.
5. Subcontractor & Supplier Management:
Measure and certify subcontractor works against agreed rates.
Negotiate subcontract agreements and ensure compliance with main contract terms.
Assess and validate material and labor costs for MEP installations.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Engineering (MEP-related).
Certification: MRICS, CCE, or similar professional accreditation (preferred).
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in MEP QS roles within construction or contracting firms.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in cost estimation software (e.g., CostX, Cubit, CCS Candy).
Strong knowledge of MEP systems, rates, and construction methodologies.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM (advantageous).
Soft Skills:
Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
Ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
Office-based with site visits as required.
