Diesel System Specialist - Tanks, Piping & Controls (Mechanical)
is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality, safety, compliance, and proper installation of all diesel mechanical systems within project external areas. This includes diesel storage tanks, day tanks, fuel piping networks, transfer systems, control interfaces, and integration with generators or related mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Quality Control
: Conduct detailed inspections and QA/QC checks for diesel mechanical systems, including:
Diesel storage tanks (main tanks, day tanks)
Underground/aboveground fuel lines and piping
Transfer pumps, strainers, valves, and controls
Fuel filtration systems
Pressure testing and leak testing
Fuel tank venting systems and spill containment
Verify all installations comply with:
Project mechanical specifications
Authority requirements (e.g., Civil Defense, local municipality)
International standards (NFPA, API, ASME, etc.)
Ensure all diesel system components are installed correctly before mechanical completion.
2. Installation Review & Site Coordination
Monitor site activities to ensure correct sequence, workmanship, and compliance.
Coordinate closely with electrical and control teams for:
Generator interfaces
Control panel connections
Fuel monitoring sensors (level, flow, leak detection)
Emergency shutdown systems
Work with subcontractors and main contractors to resolve installation issues on-site.
3. Testing & Commissioning Support
Ensure pre-commissioning activities are performed properly, such as:
Hydrostatic testing of diesel lines
Functional testing of pumps and valves
Calibration verification of monitoring equipment
Support commissioning teams in preparing systems for energization and operation.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain:
Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
Method statements verification
Material inspections (MIRs) & work inspections (WIRs)
Non-conformance reports (NCRs) and corrective action follow-ups
QA/QC logs, checklists, and progress reports
Ensure all diesel system documentation is complete and accurate for final project handover.
5. Safety & Compliance
Ensure all diesel system works meet UAE HSE and fire-safety requirements. Verify proper installation of:
Fire-rated enclosures
Spill control systems
Fuel system grounding and bonding
Venting and emergency venting
Promote strong safety practices and immediately address unsafe activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Mandatory Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
or equivalent (strict requirement).
Immediate availability
to join the project.
Technical Experience
Minimum 3-7 years of experience in diesel systems, fuel storage, piping, or mechanical QA/QC roles.
Strong knowledge of:
Diesel storage tank systems
Fuel piping networks
Controls and sensors in fuel handling
Mechanical QA/QC procedures and documentation
Experience in large-scale construction or MEP projects in the GCC is preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong technical knowledge and ability to interpret drawings (MEP/IFC/shop drawings).
Excellent understanding of mechanical codes and standards (NFPA 30, API 650, ASME B31.3, etc.).
Ability to identify issues proactively and propose practical solutions.
Strong communication skills for coordination with contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced site environments.
Work Environment
Primarily site-based across project external works (fuel tanks areas, generator yards, MEP rooms).
Hands-on inspections in mechanical and mixed-discipline areas.
Requires flexibility and readiness to respond to site conditions and urgent QA/QC matters.
