A major construction company in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced bilingual
Project Translator
(Chinese ? English) to support on-site operations. The role focuses on consecutive/liaison interpretation, translation of technical and commercial documents, and cross-cultural communication between Chinese-speaking stakeholders and English-speaking project teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide bilingual interpretation (Chinese ? English) for site activities, coordination meetings, technical briefings, and commercial negotiations.
Translate and proofread engineering and commercial documents, including contracts, technical specifications, method statements, meeting minutes, official correspondence, and tender clarifications.
Support project teams in communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and government authorities.
Assist project management with daily coordination, external liaison and follow-up of action items from bilingual meetings.
Manage, proofread, version-control and archive bilingual documents; maintain project glossaries and translation memory to ensure consistency and contractual accuracy.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above in Translation, Languages, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 2 years' experience in project/site Chinese-English translation and interpretation; experience with UAE or Middle East projects is preferred.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English (written and spoken); Arabic is an advantage.
Familiarity with construction, engineering and project management terminology and workflows.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, PDF tools and at least one CAT tool (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ, Wordfast).
Strong communication skills, professionalism, confidentiality, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
Willingness to work on-site and travel to project locations as required.
Preferred / advantageous
Prior experience on UAE or Middle East projects.
Arabic language skills.
Familiarity with international contracting forms (FIDIC, NEC) or certification in translation/interpretation.
Experience maintaining translation memories, termbases, or project glossaries.
