Job Description

Job Purpose
To provide expert mechanical engineering leadership and project management for MEP projects from conception to completion. The role is responsible for ensuring all mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, etc.) are designed, installed, tested, and commissioned on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety, in full compliance with UAE regulations and client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Design Management:

  • Review and approve mechanical design drawings, calculations, schematics, and shop drawings to ensure compliance with project specifications, international standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, IPC), and local UAE codes (Dubai DM, ADCD, Civil Defense).
  • Lead technical submittals and ensure timely approval from consultants and clients.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts and interface issues with other disciplines (Electrical, Plumbing, Civil, Architecture).
  • Conduct value engineering analyses to propose cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality or performance.
2. Project Execution & Site Supervision:
  • Oversee the entire on-site mechanical installation process, ensuring work is performed as per approved drawings and method statements.
  • Manage and coordinate with sub-contractors, suppliers, and direct labor crews.
  • Monitor daily site activities, providing technical guidance and resolving any unforeseen technical difficulties.
  • Ensure all site work adheres to the project schedule and critical path milestones.
3. Coordination & Liaison:
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, consultants, and main contractors for all mechanical-related matters.
  • Attend and lead client/consultant coordination meetings, presenting progress reports and addressing technical queries.
  • Coordinate effectively with internal teams (electrical, plumbing, procurement) to ensure seamless project integration.
4. Quality Control & Commissioning:
  • Implement and enforce strict quality control (QC) procedures and inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Witness and approve material inspections, pressure tests, air/water balancing, and other mandatory tests.
  • Lead the mechanical commissioning process, preparing logs, schedules, and functional performance tests (FPTs).
  • Ensure preparation and handover of all required project documentation, including As-Built drawings, O&M manuals, and warranties.
5. Project Controls & Reporting:
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing project budgets, cost tracking, and monthly financial forecasts.
  • Monitor project progress against the baseline program, identifying delays and proposing mitigation plans.
  • Review and endorse sub-contractor interim payment certificates and variation orders.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for management.
6. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):
  • Champion a culture of safety on site. Ensure all mechanical works comply with company and project-specific HSE plans and regulations.
  • Participate in safety audits and toolbox talks. Identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience: 8-12 years of proven experience in the MEP industry, with a strong focus on mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Fighting).
  • UAE Experience: Essential. Must have in-depth knowledge of the UAE construction market, local authorities, regulations, and standards.
  • Project Exposure: Experience working on large-scale building projects such as high-rise residential/commercial towers, hotels, hospitals, or shopping malls in the UAE.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera P6, and HVAC design software (e.g., HAP, Ductsize). Strong command of MS Office Suite.
