We are delighted to be seeking a Professor in Management who will also be a deputy director of research at our Dubai Campus. Edinburgh Business School (EBS) Dubai is the largest of five Schools in Dubai Campus. We have staff across three campuses and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research degrees across a wide range of discipline areas. We are a global University and this is reflected in the way that we manage programmes and courses. We also deliver one of the largest online MBA programmes as well as several specialist MSc programmes through a network of Approved Learning Partners. DETAILED DESCRIPTION We are seeking an experienced academic with a substantive track record in research and academic leadership as Deputy Director for Research in Dubai. This is a new post which is central to the future development of the School and forms part of the Dubai EBS leadership team and the global research leadership team. Working as part of the campus and global teams, the purpose of role is develop and support current faculty in Dubai, most of whom have PhDs but have largely not delivered significant journal publications or research funding applications. The appointee will also be central in supporting future academic recruitment in Dubai to ensure the Dubai campus is recognised as an integral component of the School\'s research base. The enhancing of EBS research performance globally is critical to the delivery of the School\'s strategy, Ambition 2030 , which aims to position the School as a leader in practice oriented business research. While the particular disciplinary focus is not critical, preference will be given to candidates with a background in innovation, entrepreneurship, operations management, marketing and strategy.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Core functions of the role will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supporting colleagues to develop a distinctive, engagement-oriented research culture
  • Supporting individuals and teams to develop their research and scholarship strategies
  • Leading major research funding initiatives based in Dubai
  • Providing mentorship to early and mid-career researchers
  • Creating developmental workshops that will support Dubai based academics Relaunching the EBS PhD programme and launching a DBA programme in Dubai
The role will be expected to deliver the following outcomes:
  • Increased research outputs including papers in Q1 academic journals
  • Increased number of bids, and success rates, for research funding
  • Staff from Dubai successfully applying to move to research focused career track
  • Increasing the level of PhD applications and increasing the pool of qualified PhD supervisors Enhanced engagement with the global Research Centres

The role will also provide support to the Malaysia campus in developing the research culture. The majority of this will take place online though it is anticipated that there may be two visits per year to deliver in-person activities.
Alongside the Deputy Director of Research role, the appointee will be expected to contribute to learning and teaching, and research and scholarship activities commensurate with professorial status.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE To be considered for the role you will be and established international research leader, with strong funding, publishing and supervisory experience. Critical will be the ambition to build a world-class academic team in Dubai in collaboration with the Head of School in Dubai and the Global Director of Research.
Essential Criteria
  • PhD in the relevant field.
  • Possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge in your disciplinary field to provide leadership in research and engagement with business.
  • Proven track record of engaged research, including securing competitive funding, publishing in leading academic journals and influencing policy and/or practice. Proven track-record of working in Higher Education in the UK or comparable sectors globally.
