for high-voltage substations (typically 15kV to 500kV). This role requires a strong understanding of power systems, utility standards, and the ability to create accurate and complete drawing packages for construction and permitting.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and prepare
substation design drawings
(e.g., General Arrangement, Electrical Layouts, Control Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Grounding, and Conduit Plans)
Perform electrical engineering design for
high-voltage substations
, including equipment selection, protection schemes, and cable sizing
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and CAD drafters to produce high-quality, accurate drawing sets
Create and revise
one-line and three-line diagrams
and develop wiring diagrams from engineering markups
Ensure designs comply with
national and international standards
(e.g., IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC), client specifications, and utility requirements
Participate in
site visits and field verifications
to collect data and support construction
Review vendor drawings and coordinate integration into substation design
Support the preparation of
Bill of Materials (BOMs), equipment specifications, and design reports
Manage and maintain design documentation and CAD libraries
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
from an accredited institution (Master's preferred)
Professional Engineer (PE) license
strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months
Minimum of
3-7 years of experience
in substation design engineering
Proficiency with
AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical
, and/or
MicroStation
; experience with
Revit, Bentley Substation, or other electrical CAD tools
is a plus
Solid knowledge of
electrical power systems
, protective relaying, and grounding design
Experience working with major utilities or engineering firms in the power sector
Strong understanding of
NESC, NEC, IEEE, and utility standards
Ability to work independently and in a team environment on multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills:
Experience with
SCADA systems

control panel layout
, and
relay coordination
Familiarity with
P&C design
, relay settings, and automation systems
Experience with
project lifecycle documentation
, including IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings and as-built packages
Knowledge of
civil or structural considerations
