Job Description

Job Overview: The Principal Project Controls Administrator is an individual contributor that assists in project cost and schedule forecasting using the associated Project Cost Management systems. The position typically reports directly to the Project Manager.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Reports to the Lead Cost Specialist or Project Controls Manager, as per the project organization for both internal and external reporting
  • Is actively involved in maintaining communication within the Cost and/or Project team, with the purpose of providing the team with all the necessary information about the duties assigned to him/her
  • Is responsible for setting up and maintaining communication with the disciplines in the Project team (Engineering Disciplines, Procurement, Subcontracting, Construction, and Fabrication as applicable), with the purpose of collecting as well as supplying information about the duties assigned to him/her
  • Assists the cost team in setting up internal and external cost reporting, forecasting and change management systems. The goal is to provide the best information to project management for timely decision-making and corrective action
  • Set-up Cost control system on a project, based on Mcdermott internal requirements and project (contract) requirements
  • Be(come) familiar with procurement, estimating and planning & scheduling, and finance and accounting techniques. Be(come) familiar with cost control tools and best practices
  • Under supervision be able to prepare parts of an EPC cost database for the job parts assigned to him/her
  • Be able to use cost trending tools based on earned value principles, using the company standards
  • Under supervision be able to prepare preliminary cost / quantity analysis for job parts assigned to him/her
  • Under supervision be able to prepare a cost forecast at project completion based on an estimate-to-complete for the remaining work and registered expenditures & commitments on job parts assigned to him/her
  • Under supervision be able to assist in setting-up and maintaining a change management system
  • Be able and prepared to execute lower grade tasks as necessary
  • Be able to work on multiple projects as required

Essential Qualifications and Education:
  • 3-5 years of experience within the Energy Industry
  • An Experienced Professional with practical knowledge of the job area typically obtained through on-the-job experience
  • Competent in the use of all Microsoft Office tools, with particular expert use of Excel
  • Proficient in the use of JDE accounting package, or similar
