Role Purpose:
The Principal Engineer - Opto-Mechanical Lead is responsible for the design and integration of precision opto-mechanical assemblies in advanced optical camera systems. The position requires expertise in mechanical housing design, alignment of optical components, thermal management, and environmental robustness. The role includes technical leadership, mentoring, and ensuring compliance with performance and reliability standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and development of precision opto-mechanical assemblies for optical cameras.
• Ensure accurate alignment and stability of lenses, detectors, and optical subsystems.
• Define and implement thermal management strategies (heat sinks, TEC cooling, airflow).
• Ensure compliance with aerospace/defense environmental requirements (shock, vibration, thermal cycling).
• Oversee tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturability of mechanical components.
• Collaborate with optics, electronics, and systems teams for full integration.
• Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and validation of prototypes.
• Mentor engineers and establish best practices in opto-mechanical design.

• CAD Tools: SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA.
• Thermal/Structural Analysis: ANSYS, COMSOL, FloTHERM.
• Tolerance/Precision Tools: GD&T software, Zemax OptoMechanical Module.
• Project Tools: MS Project, MS office.

Main Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (Master's or PhD preferred)
• 12+ years of experience in opto-mechanical design for imaging, aerospace, or defence systems.
• Proven track record of leading mechanical design and system integration.

• Expert knowledge of opto-mechanical design for high-performance imaging systems.
• Experience with thermal, vibration, and structural analysis for precision assemblies.
• Strong background in mechanical tolerance analysis and kinematic mounting.
• Leadership in multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Strong documentation and technical communication skills.
