The successful candidate will work as Post-Doc in the ASPIRE Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands. This institute features a comprehensive and highly interdisciplinary R&D program and provides an international collaboration platform for researchers and stakeholders of the public and private food and agricultural sector. It strives to generate knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE and other arid environments of the world.
As part of one of its research themes, the institute is aiming to collect, characterise and genetically improve poultry breeds native to the UAE for dual-purpose, free-range production systems. This will involve the establishment of a poultry breeding unit on one of our experimental stations. In support of this research, we seek to hire a highly motivated candidate with a strong academic track record in the field of poultry breeding and genetics. This position involves frequent farm visits, sample collection, and collection of information on existing local poultry breeds from different regions of UAE. Candidates with strong experience in fieldwork related to poultry breeding, genetics with relevant laboratory work, and the ability to efficiently collaborate in an international environment are highly suited to this position. Experience with in vitro fertilization and conservation in poultry is a plus.
The selected candidate will be expected to maintain good connections with farmers and relevant stakeholders, work independently, prepare manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and assist in supervising/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
The position is for nine months with the option of extension on an annual basis.

Minimum Qualification
PhD in Animal Science/ Poultry breeding, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related scientific discipline.

Preferred Qualification
PhD in the concerned field plus research experience in poultry breeding, animal genetics, and free-range poultry production systems.
