Responsibilities:
Trading Strategy Development, Execution & Risk Management

  • Develop and implement trading strategies in the MEA region, for the petroleum trading desk to achieve sustainable growth profits while managing risks and maximising profitability.
  • Execute physical trade operations efficiently. Ensure a clear hedging strategy is adopted to manage price, credit, and operational risks.
  • Run complementary derivative trading to mainly hedge current and new supply when and where appropriate with limited speculation exposure.
  • Optimize logistics and storage plays (where the market structure supports it).
  • Manage the logistics of each deal to the best commercial advantage whilst ensuring that all contractual and our client assurance obligations are met.
  • Carry out Trading Research such as Supply and Demand Balances and other fundamental data.
  • Collect important information related to petroleum assets and continuously advise on requisite investment.
  • Deploying a deep knowledge and understanding of global trade compliance operations practices and procedures, provide support to validate and coordinate import/export transactional requirements, ensuring pre-transaction regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
Relationship Management
  • The incumbent is expected to build up strong relationships with internal and external counterparties, skillfully negotiating terms and conditions of contracts and agreements to secure the most favorable outcomes for the company, ensuring both profitability and strategic advantage.
  • Build strong internal relationships with the rest of the Commercial organisation and key Downstream customers.
  • Build relationships with external trading counterparties to understand their requirements, strategies, drivers, business portfolio and market views.
  • Consult with the Supply team to determine refinery requirements and develop optionality.
  • Develop and enhance counter-party relationships to expand our market presence and increase trading potential.
Requirements:
  • A minimum of 7 years operational experience and a good working knowledge of the energy trading and shipping environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Commercial, Logistics, Economics or a related field. An MBA would be an added advantage.
  • An in-depth knowledge of global oil markets.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead, plan and manage change.
