: Purpose:

Shell is expanding its upstream operations in the Sultanate of Oman which will include drilling of exploration, appraisal, and development wells, as well as reservoir management and field development planning. The Operations Petrophysicist will be part of a team of Petroleum Engineers and Geoscientists responsible for the maturation of well functional specification and the evaluation of subsurface data in support of data acquisition operations for exploration, appraisal, and development drilling in Oman. The Operations Petrophysicist will be responsible for the petrophysical work for well delivery planning and operations, and reports to the Well Delivery Manager.

Accountabilities:

Deliver petrophysical interpretations of offset wells in support of well location selection and drilling related subsurface risk assessment.

Take full ownership of the data acquisition programs - i.e., LWD, wireline logging programs (open hole & cased hole), coring (both full-bore and sidewall), as well as sampling.

Follow drilling, LWD and wireline logging (open hole & cased hole) operations and perform quick-look interpretation feeding into operational decisions.

Manage sample gathering, transport and evaluation by third parties. This includes both core material and PVT samples.

Ensure compliance to relevant corporate Subsurface Design and Engineering Practices (DEPs).

Ensure corporate Petrophysical standards and procedures are upheld and adhered to.

Ensure integration of petrophysical work with other subsurface disciplines.

Ensure the integrity and quality of petrophysical data in the corporate data base in line with corporate standards and procedures.

Be a key contributor to identification and maturation of hydrocarbon opportunities and operational activities.

Identify requirements for data gathering to optimize integrated hydrocarbon maturation.

Pursue application of appropriate (new) evaluation (& data acquisition) technologies.

Dimensions:

2 drilling rigs, delivering some 10 deep wells per year with up to 3 logging intervals each.

These wells form part of an Exploration & Appraisal campaign as well as execution of Field Development Plans.

What we need from You

Minimum BSc University Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Geology or equivalent.

Minimum 8 years' experience in the upstream oil and gas industry.

Extensive experience with well delivery and Petrophysical operations.

A sound grasps of the latest Petrophysical technologies and software packages (e.g. Techlog).

Exposure to Value of Information methodology.

Broad knowledge of all subsurface evaluation disciplines.

Knowledge of well and reservoir surveillance and operational experience is desirable.

Experience with tight gas and/or unconventional developments will be desirable.

Experience with Technical Data Management is an advantage.

Strong team player with corresponding inter-personal skills and learning mindset.

Ability to motivate and influence individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

High degree of achievement drive and initiative.

Proficiency in English.
