Technical and hands-on skills

Bathing and drying:

Washing and drying different coat types, using the correct shampoos, and applying products to manage skin and coat conditions.

Brushing and de-matting:

Detangling and removing loose fur, distributing natural oils, and using proper techniques for different coat textures.

Clipping and styling:

Trimming and clipping fur to maintain a desired length and style, using tools like clippers and scissors for various breeds.

Nail care:

Clipping or filing nails safely and correctly.

Ear cleaning:

Cleaning pet ears to prevent infections. Other Grooming functions to do professional grooming.
Animal handling and behavior

Handling different temperaments:

Safely and gently handling animals, including those that are nervous, agitated, or aggressive.

Calming techniques:

Using methods to keep animals calm and relaxed during the grooming process.

Physical management:

Safely securing and restraining animals for grooming procedures.
Health and safety

Skin and coat assessment:

Identifying potential skin issues or parasites and understanding their causes.

Basic first aid:

Knowing how to handle common injuries that may occur during grooming.

Knowledge of diseases:

Having a basic understanding of common animal diseases.

Hygiene and sanitation:

Maintaining a clean and disinfected workspace and equipment.
Customer service and communication

Client communication:

Discussing grooming needs and plans with pet owners, as well as recommending products and styles.

Customer service:

Providing excellent service to build and maintain client relationships.

Reporting:

Communicating serious health concerns to Pet Owners and Management.
