The Pet Groomer is responsible for providing professional, compassionate, and hygienic grooming services for small pets, primarily dogs and cats. The role ensures the safety, comfort, and well-being of all pets while supporting client satisfaction and maintaining the hospital's professional standards and image.
Key Responsibilities
Grooming & Animal Care
Perform full grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, de-shedding, trimming, clipping, and nail cutting.
Carry out breed-specific grooming styles as requested by clients and approved by veterinarians.
Assist with medically required grooming procedures (e.g., sanitary trims, mat removal) under veterinary guidance.
Conduct basic checks of skin, coat, ears, nails, and overall condition, and promptly report any abnormalities or concerns to the veterinary team.
Handle pets safely using gentle restraint techniques and stress-free handling practices to ensure animal welfare.
Hygiene, Safety & Compliance
Maintain a clean, calm, and hygienic grooming environment at all times.
Disinfect grooming tools, tables, bathing areas, and equipment after each use in accordance with infection-control protocols.
Use grooming equipment correctly and safely; report any damage, malfunction, or safety concerns immediately.
Adhere to hospital policies, infection-control standards, and animal-handling and bite-prevention guidelines.
Client Service & Communication
Discuss grooming requirements and expectations with pet owners prior to service delivery.
Provide professional grooming advice and recommendations when appropriate.
Clearly explain grooming outcomes and post-grooming care instructions to clients.
Record client preferences and grooming notes to support consistency in future visits.
Contribute to a positive customer experience and support client retention and loyalty to ZVH.
Administration & Team Coordination
Schedule grooming appointments and manage daily workload efficiently.
Accurately document grooming services performed in the patient medical record.
Coordinate closely with reception staff, veterinary nurses, and veterinarians as required.
Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of
2-3 years of experience
as a professional pet groomer (primarily dogs and cats).
Formal grooming certification preferred (not mandatory if practical skills are demonstrated).
Experience in an animal hospital or professional pet salon environment is an advantage.
Knowledge of breed-specific grooming techniques and standards.
Ability to identify basic skin and coat issues and communicate concerns effectively.
