Peripatetic Instrumental and Vocal Tutors Preferably local-hire in Bahrain
Starting September 2022

The British School of Bahrain (BSB) is seeking to appoint outstanding Peripatetic Instrumental and Vocal Tutors.
The Music Department presently consists of a Director of Whole School Music, Lead Teacher of Music, 3 academic music teachers, a full-time instrumental tutor, and 4 visiting instrumental tutors. This is a thriving and ambitious department encouraging our students and teachers to be musicians in the classroom and the wider community. BSB is currently the award holder for the BSME Young Musicians of the Gulf 2022 Owerkowicz Bequest for Best Bahrain Based Musician.
We are looking for outstanding Tutors of Guitar, Drums, Brass and Lower Strings. The ability to teach viola and cello would be highly desirable, and previous experience of leading whole class instrumental and larger ensembles would be an advantage.

At The British School of Bahrain, Instrumental and Vocal Tutors’ are expected to:
  • provide high calibre music lessons for students.
  • demonstrate appropriate techniques to students.
  • enable the students to perform musically and to achieve their full potential in music examinations, competitions, and concert performances as appropriate (this will primarily be achieved through one-to-one lessons and coaching ensembles).
  • write reports and assessment as requested by the Director of Whole School Music or Lead Teacher of Music.
  • carry out administrative tasks in relation to the role.
  • carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by the Director of Whole School Music or Lead Teacher of Music.

We ask that staff:
  • Ensure students are entered for ABRSM and Trinity examinations, are given performance opportunities, get students involved with ensembles and enter students for the Bahrain Young Performers Festival, Young Musicians of the Gulf - each year. These are examples of the sort of activities and pursuits all our students must be engaged with.
  • Nurture all their students to set goals and choose repertoire they would like to play.
  • Show support for Students, your colleagues and Department, by attending scheduled concerts and performances, where your students are represented;
  • Keep the teaching room tidy, well organised, and instruments are kept in a safe environment for students.
  • Demonstrate a positive working style with enthusiasm and commitment;
  • Has high expectations and aspirations for all students.
  • Has a demonstratable commitment to the overall development of young people.
  • Can provide an Enhanced Disclosure/DBS/ACRO Police Check or equivalent, and who is committed to the welfare of all children.
