DLA Piper Middle East LLP has one of the largest disputes teams in the region, demonstrating major commitment to the region. We are able to offer a \'one stop shop\' for specialist service lines across the group including international arbitration, offshore litigation (the DIFC and ADGM Courts), onshore litigation in the UAE courts, white collar crime, corporate investigations and compliance and construction & engineering disputes.
As the regional hub, we handle highly complex, long-running matters spanning the entire GCC (UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman), in addition to surrounding markets such as Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Syria and Turkey, as well as collaborating with our international network of offices on major cross border disputes.
We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Paralegal/Legal Manager, where the successful candidate would enjoy varied and challenging work across all specialist service lines as well as a range of sectors and geographies.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide the Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations group with a high level of support in relation to organisation, preparation of documents for trial and arbitration hearings, conduct research and report accordingly.
Paralegals are not authorised to give legal advice to clients but the role is similar to an entry level associate and recognised as a valuable asset within the team. Legal Managers are however, subject to their qualification.
The following sets out the broad expectations of the role. However, this is not an exhaustive list and the job holder may be requested to undertake reasonable additional tasks as the needs of the business arise:
Conducting factual and legal research including analysis of and researching specific cases/matters of
interest \xe2\x80\x93 providing summary reports as directed
Creating and maintaining document databases; capturing research results and reports
Indexing, collating and filing of documents in preparation for litigation and/or arbitration
Supporting the fee earners in their tasks including investigation and research into particular case facts/laws
ABOUT YOU
We pride ourselves on having a collegiate environment and we are looking for down-to-earth but confident individuals with a can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
The successful candidates will have the following skills and attributes:
Law graduate with either LLB Law degree, JD (or equivalent) and/or LLM (essential)
LPC (or equivalent) preferred
Previous Paralegal or equivalent experience gained in an international litigation/arbitration practice, ideally in the Middle East
Mature and pragmatic with the ability to communicate at all levels
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to present information in a succinct way and an acute attention to detail
Arabic language skills would be advantageous but not essential
Project / case management experience would be beneficial
Be able to create and deliver sustainable, high quality client service whilst also considering the client\xe2\x80\x99s wider business objectives
Willing to view the role as an opportunity to gain broad experience whilst being aware that the job will require a reasonable degree of administrative activities
Use of initiative and being well organised, with the ability to juggle numerous tasks at once
Capable of working on own initiative and often to demanding deadlines
Results orientated, with a pragmatic and flexible approach to work
Takes ownership for achieving agreed objects
Commercially astute and stays current on key legal and business news
Exhibits behaviour consistent with the firm\xe2\x80\x99s values and builds relationships based on respect, trust and integrity
Legal Manager, would also be a qualified solicitor or attorney.
