Reference #977 Our client a leading global consulting engineering, PMCM and landscape architecture firm with international operations across major landmark real estate projects across the Middle East and North Africa markets, seeks to appoint an Operation Director as 2IC to the Vice President of the Landscape Architecture and Design (LAD) Division. The core objectives of this role are:
  • To monitor overall project status and commercial positions of projects for the LAD Division.
  • Client liaison and project development from proposal submission stage to contract award, execution and handover.
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of business strategy, including policies and procedures at a Divisional level.
Reporting to the Vice President - LAD and as a senior of the divisional management team, this role manages 9 direct and 50 indirect reports with responsibilities including:
  • Development, streamlining, implementation and maintenance of commercial and operations management for the Landscape Architecture and Design (LAD) Division.
  • Monitoring of project status of LAD projects and compliance of standards and practices, work standard principles to meet the firm’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversight of studio and project management team performance including internal project reporting and project invoicing
  • Oversight of divisional project performance indicators and production of project performance metrics reports for executive team review, including project review meetings for live projects.
  • Identification and resolution of internal and external project performance issues, such as out-of-scope work requests and variation opportunities.
  • Continual improvement of operational systems, processes and policies to support the divisional development strategy. This includes management reporting, information flow and management, business processes, project and fiscal management and organizational planning.
  • Experience commercially in head contract and subcontract preparation, documentation, management and administration and contract negotiation.
  • Contribution to divisional budgets, forecasting and reporting including oversight of divisional invoicing, accounts payable and receivables.
  • Development of QMS Systems and management of progression toward ISO 9001 certification. Ensure implementation of corporate and divisional QA/QC standards.
  • Development and monitoring of management procedures including recommendation and implementation of system improvements.
  • Oversight and reporting on divisional monthly and quarterly assessments and forecasts for financial performance against budget, financial and operational goals.
  • Lead performance management for the divisional team including performance appraisals and mentoring of the team to encourage and drive divisional performance.
The attributes we seek include:
  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design or Engineering with Masters or post-graduate credentials highly regarded. Candidates must possess internationally recognized professional associations in urban planning, engineering, or landscape architecture such as AICP, RTPI, ASLA or CMLI.
  • A minimum of 15+ years’ experience in international planning and landscape architecture with consultancy firms is required. Candidates must possess demonstrated expertise in commercial and contract management of complex fast-track projects across the project lifecycle including from contract award to project completion and close out.
  • Superior client management and development abilities including the ability to identify and assess project risk, resource plan and prepare project budgets.
  • Candidates must possess a strong knowledge in design, production, construction techniques, procedures, industry codes and standards.
  • Strong numeracy skills across financial terms and principles and the ability to calculate complex figures is essential including the preparation of budgets, forecasts and analysis.
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written. Proficiency in other languages, especially Arabic, is highly regarded.
  • Candidates must be prepared to travel extensively across the GCC Region.
