Obstetrics (pregnancy and childbirth):

Qualifications and roles

Education:

A medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited school and completion of a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology are required.

Certification:

Board certification or eligibility in the specialty is often necessary.

Seniority:

Roles can range from residents who train under supervision to senior consultants who lead teams, manage departments, and mentor junior staff. Providing comprehensive care before, during, and after pregnancy. Monitoring fetal development through procedures like ultrasounds. Managing and assisting in labor and delivery, including performing cesarean sections when necessary. Providing postpartum care and advice for new mothers.

Gynecology (female reproductive health):

Performing routine and specialized examinations of the female reproductive system. Diagnosing and treating conditions, infections, and disorders of the reproductive organs. Assisting with family planning, including prescribing birth control and discussing options.

Surgery:

Performing a variety of surgical procedures, such as hysterectomies, laparoscopies, and other operations on the female reproductive organs.

Patient care and education:

Educating and counseling women on various aspects of their health. Maintaining accurate and confidential patient records. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the best care plan.
