The role of the Nursing Aide is to support the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of qualified nursing personnel. The role involves collaborating with the nursing staff, in assisting patients with the activities of daily living, and collaborating with all members of ward staff in creating an efficient, safe and friendly environment for care delivery.

Essential Job functions and Key Accountabilities:

?Duties assigned to the Nursing Aide will vary depending on the care setting and will include the following functions. This is not an exhaustive list.

1.
To provide a professional and caring service for all patients whilst in the care of Kanad Hospital
?
2.
Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed according to current policies and procedures
?
3.
Assisting the Registered Nurse in the provision of quality nursing service by promoting and adopting philosophy of care within the service area.
?
4.
Assisting the Registered Nurse in duties associated with the delivery of care and management of the unit environment and other support duties as appropriate.
?
5.
To report any incident or potential incident that may compromise the health and safety of residents, staff or visitors and take appropriate action.
?
6.
To carry out assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (eg to assist patients/residents maintain standards of personal hygiene, laundry, dietary intake, physical and mental health). Personal care including infection prevention and control, food, personal hygiene and overall reassurance, comfort and safety

Promoting positive mental/physical/nutritional health with patients

Demonstrate knowledge of the hospital's physical layout.
?
?9.
Communicates professionally with Patients, Visitors and all Kanad Hospital staff
?
?10.
Greets and receives patients with a smile and a servant's attitude
?
?11.
Checking and ordering supplies. Maintains stock levels of non-medicine stock in patient and non-patient areas. Assists nursing staff with checking unit stock level (of disposables) and ordering from the stores as per need
?
?12.
Answer call bells promptly and assist resident or inform nursing personnel as necessary.
?
?13.
Check call bells are in working order and are in within reach of the patient/resident
?
?14.
Answers and channels telephone calls and relays messages to the staff
?
?15.
Directs visitors
?
?16.
Correctly assembles and maintain patient charts from admission to discharge and includes filing of documents
?
?17.
To ensure that the uniform is worn in accordance with the organizations work wear policy.
?
?18.
Dresses professionally and acts in a professional manner
?
?19.
Follows up on all assigned tasks and give timely feedback to the immediate supervisor
?
?20.
Cleans, organizes and keeps the unit in order
?
?21.
Clean and assemble equipment as required e.g .trolleys, drip stands, commode, etc.
?
?22.
Ensure sluice room is kept clean and tidy and that daily checklists are signed.
?
?23.
Make occupied and unoccupied beds
?
24.
Gets equipment and materials needed by midwifery, nursing and medical staff
?
25.
Assist with the orientation of new staff
