Job Description

At GEMS International School, Al Khail (GIS), we empower students to become confident, curious, and compassionate global citizens. As a fully authorised IB World School, we offer the complete IB continuum -- fostering a culture of innovation, academic excellence, and international-mindedness.
Our educators are part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team that values creativity, collaboration, and continuous growth. Together, we inspire students to lead with purpose and make a positive impact on the world.
We at GEMS International School, Al Khail are now welcoming applications from experienced MYP Coordinators, with an opportunity available for August 2026.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and oversee the effective implementation of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) at GEMS International School, ensuring full alignment with IB philosophy, Programme Standards & Practices, and the school's strategic vision.
  • Support and guide teachers in the planning and delivery of high-quality, inquiry-based, concept-driven learning, promoting consistency, rigour, and progression across all MYP subject groups.
  • Ensure clear vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment within the MYP and across the wider IB continuum, supporting smooth transitions between PYP, MYP, and DP.
  • Coordinate and quality-assure MYP assessment practices, including standardisation, moderation, and reporting, to ensure clarity, fairness, and consistency for students and families.
  • Promote inclusive teaching and learning practices across the programme, supporting effective differentiation to meet the needs of a diverse international student body, including EAL, gifted learners, and students requiring additional support.
  • Lead the use of assessment data and programme-level evidence to monitor student progress, inform interventions, and drive continuous improvement across the MYP.
  • Oversee key MYP components, including Approaches to Learning (ATL), Service as Action, interdisciplinary learning, and the MYP Personal Project, ensuring strong implementation and compliance with IB requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Principal, senior leaders, Heads of Department, and pastoral teams to support whole-school priorities and ensure coherence across academic and pastoral provision.
  • Plan and facilitate professional learning to build staff capacity and confidence in MYP teaching, learning, and assessment, supporting both experienced and new IB educators.
  • Engage proactively with parents and the wider school community to communicate the MYP philosophy, curriculum structure, and assessment approach.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through academic enrichment initiatives, events, and co-curricular opportunities that enhance the MYP learner experience.
  • Model and uphold GEMS values and the IB Learner Profile, fostering reflective practice, professional growth, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A recognised professional teaching qualification at degree level (e.g. B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE or equivalent), with experience teaching at Secondary level.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' successful teaching experience, ideally within an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) environment, with evidence of strong student outcomes and effective classroom practice.
  • Demonstrable experience in curriculum coordination, middle leadership, or programme-level responsibility, including supporting colleagues, contributing to curriculum planning, and driving consistency and improvement across a programme.
  • A strong understanding of IB MYP philosophy, frameworks, and assessment practices, including unit planning, criteria-based assessment, and Approaches to Learning (ATL).
  • Experience working within an IB continuum school is preferred, though strong candidates from other international or national curricula with relevant leadership experience will be considered.
  • A passion for inquiry-based, concept-driven learning, with the ability to inspire and support teachers across multiple subject areas.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead collaboratively and build positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and senior leaders.
  • The vision, energy, and commitment to contribute to the continued success of GEMS International School, supporting high standards within a diverse international community.
