Job Description

Responsible for the hygienic and efficient milking of dairy cattle, which includes preparing the animals' udders, attaching and removing milking equipment, and performing post-milking cleaning and disinfection. Monitoring the herd's health for signs of illness, moving cows to and from milking sheds, and maintaining the milking area and machinery. This includes giving full attention to detail, a calm demeanor with animals, and often involves working early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Bring cows from paddocks to the milking shed. Perform pre-milking udder hygiene and preparation. Attach and remove milking cups according to standard operating procedures (SOPs). Apply teat disinfectant after milking. Monitor cows for signs of illness such as mastitis, lameness, or teat damage, and follow protocols for reporting and treatment. Ensure a safe working environment and comply with animal welfare and OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) regulations. Follow strict sanitation protocols for the dairy and equipment. Operate and clean the milking plant, cooling, and washing systems after each milking. Ensure the milking area is clean and ready for the next milking. Perform minor maintenance on farm machinery as needed. Assist with other farm tasks like feeding, cleaning stalls, and collecting calves or cows. Maintain records, including animal health and milk production. Set up tracks and gates for grazing or movement.
