Job Description

Reuters is seeking an experienced journalist to lead its Middle East and North Africa breaking news hub in Dubai. The hub is in charge of producing real time news alerts and stories in English and Arabic from a variety of sources, including TV broadcast, podcasts, social media and news agency feeds. It works closely with bureaus and correspondents in the region to break with the highest degree of accuracy news that is important for Reuters’ global audience of decision makers in the worlds of business, media and politics.
As our MENA Breaking News Editor, you will:
  • Send breaking news alerts which are clear, accurate and fast, putting our readers and clients ahead on the most important breaking stories and consolidating Reuters reputation as the world’s leading and most influential news agency
  • Oversee the snapping operations of the team to get the news first to Reuters subscribers
  • Write the first breaks of breaking news through the initial updates of a story.
  • Work under pressure in a very fast-paced environment.
  • Extract snaps from financial/energy/commodities statements, speeches, tweets, TV broadcasts
To be our MENA Breaking News Editor, you will likely have:
  • Excellent command of the English and Arabic languages; Farsi or French an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of the main conflicts at play within the region
  • Solid knowledge of the energy, commodities and financial industries
  • Ability to work under pressure, and to work early or late shifts when needed
  • Ability to work with a large team across the region that spans four time zones
  • Previous experience managing a team of reporters
