Core Responsibilities of an MEP Purchase Engineer

1.

Procurement & Sourcing

Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers/vendors for MEP equipment and materials (HVAC systems, electrical panels, cables, plumbing fixtures, etc.). Ensure materials meet required specifications, quality standards, and compliance codes.
2.

Vendor Management

Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms with suppliers. Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues.
3.

Cost Control

Obtain competitive quotations and conduct cost analysis to ensure the best value for money. Maintain budgets and forecast purchasing needs in coordination with the project team.
4.

Material Planning & Inventory

Coordinate with project managers and site engineers to assess material requirements. Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials to avoid project delays. Monitor inventory levels and maintain stock records.
5.

Technical Evaluation

Review technical submittals and compare supplier specifications with design requirements. Liaise with MEP design and engineering teams for material approval.
6.

Documentation & Compliance

Prepare purchase orders, agreements, and procurement reports. Ensure all procurement activities follow organizational policies and legal standards. Maintain records for ISO, audits, and quality management systems.
7.

Coordination with Internal Teams

Collaborate with the planning, design, estimation, and site execution teams. Address site concerns related to material quality, delivery, and installation.
8.

Logistics & Delivery Monitoring

Track the delivery status of materials and coordinate transportation logistics. Handle import/export documentation (if needed) and customs clearance for international purchases.

Skills Required

Strong knowledge of MEP materials and systems. Negotiation and vendor management skills. Proficiency in ERP systems Good understanding of technical drawings and specifications. Excellent communication and coordination skills.
