The MEP Electrical Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed electrical drawings, layouts, and documentation for construction projects, following engineering standards and project specifications. The role supports electrical engineers and project teams in delivering accurate and timely technical drawings for installations such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, ELV systems, and other electrical works.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare
detailed electrical shop drawings
including lighting, power, cable routing, earthing, ELV, and load schedules.
Develop
as-built drawings
, coordination drawings, and 3D models (if required) based on mark-ups and site inputs.
Coordinate with MEP engineers, architects, civil teams, and other disciplines to ensure drawing accuracy and clash-free layouts.
Update drawings based on
design changes, site conditions
, and engineer feedback.
Ensure all drawings comply with
project specifications, local authorities, and international standards
.
Perform quantity take-offs for electrical materials when required.
Maintain drawing logs, revision records, and documentation in accordance with project procedures.
Assist in preparing
, and equipment layouts.
Use CAD/BIM software to produce high-quality work within deadlines.
Participate in design and coordination meetings when needed.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong expertise in
AutoCAD
(mandatory); experience with
Revit MEP/Navisworks
is an advantage.
Good understanding of electrical systems:
Power distribution
Lighting & emergency lighting
Fire alarm & ELV
Earthing & lightning protection
Load schedules & panel boards
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and IFC documents.
Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.
Good communication and coordination skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
Qualifications
Diploma / ITI in Electrical Engineering or Drafting.
5+ years of experience as an
MEP Electrical Draftsman
(or as required by employer).
Experience in construction, contracting, or MEP consultancy environment.
Preferred Experience
Gulf/International experience (if relevant).
Experience with BIM workflows.
Familiarity with local authority standards (e.g., DEWA, ADDC, SEC, Qatar Kahramaa, etc.).
