Location:
[Site/Rig/Plant Based - e.g., Ras Laffan, Dukhan, Offshore Platform]
Reporting To:
Mechanical Supervisor or Maintenance Superintendent
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Mechanical Technician with proven hands-on experience in oil & gas production, refining, or petrochemical facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of static and rotating mechanical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. You will work under strict permit-to-work systems in potentially hazardous environments, requiring the highest standards of technical competence and procedural discipline.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance:
Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) tasks on all mechanical assets according to OEM guidelines and CMMS work orders.
Perform corrective maintenance and emergency repairs to minimize downtime on critical equipment.
Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and performance checks.
2. Equipment Specialization (Rotating & Static):
Rotating Equipment:
Maintain, align, and repair pumps (centrifugal, reciprocating, multistage), centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, gas and steam turbines, fans, blowers, and gearboxes.
Static Equipment:
Maintain, inspect, and repair pressure vessels, heat exchangers (shell & tube, air coolers), columns, reactors, pipelines, valves (gate, globe, check, control), and tanks.
Packaging & Sealing:
Perform mechanical seal and packing changes, gland adjustments, and lubrication management.
3. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Diagnose mechanical failures using root cause analysis (RCA) techniques.
Utilize vibration analysis, thermography, and lubrication oil analysis data to identify potential faults.
Dismantle, inspect, measure, repair, and reassemble equipment to precise tolerances.
4. Installation & Commissioning Support:
Support the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new mechanical equipment.
Perform pre-commissioning checks, hydro-testing, and function testing.
5. Safety, Compliance & Documentation:
Strictly adhere to Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), and isolation procedures.
Follow all site-specific HSE policies, including confined space entry, working at heights, and hot work permits.
Ensure all work complies with international standards (API, ASME, ANSI) and company specifications.
Complete accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment history reports in the CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
Update mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory:
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
or equivalent (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds).
Minimum
3 years of direct experience
as a Mechanical Technician in the
oil & gas, petrochemical, or refining industry
(onshore/offshore).
Proven hands-on experience
with the maintenance of:
Rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines).
Valves and actuators.
Heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
Proficiency in precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial gauges, laser alignment tools).
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and mechanical schematics.
Physically fit for demanding environments (able to lift heavy components, work in confined spaces, and at heights).
Preferred:
OPITO-certified
mechanical competencies or equivalent.
BOSIET/HUET/FOET
certification for offshore positions.
API certifications
(e.g., API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector, API 570 Piping Inspector) are a significant advantage.
