is responsible for carrying out preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical equipment used in primary tobacco processing operations. The role ensures smooth, safe, and efficient operation of production machinery, utilities, and material handling systems in compliance with company standards, safety procedures, and manufacturing best practices.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment and plant utilities.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical faults in production machinery, such as:
+ Tobacco threshing, redrying, and conditioning machines
+ Conveyors, elevators, feeders, and sorting systems
+ Fans, blowers, compressors, and pumps Carry out installation, alignment, and commissioning of mechanical equipment.
Perform maintenance on rotating equipment, including gearboxes, bearings, shafts, couplings, and belts.
Conduct lubrication, inspection, and replacement of worn or damaged parts.
Assist in shutdown maintenance, overhauls, and major repairs.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layouts, and equipment manuals.
Ensure proper functioning of utilities such as boilers, steam lines, air systems, and HVAC (basic level).
Coordinate with electrical technicians during machine troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
Maintain maintenance records, breakdown reports, and spare parts usage in CMMS or maintenance logs.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), PPE usage, and safe lifting practices.
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), hygiene, and housekeeping standards applicable to tobacco processing facilities.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
Strictly comply with company safety policies and mechanical safety standards.
Identify unsafe conditions and report hazards or near misses.
Ensure safe working practices in high-risk areas such as moving machinery, hot surfaces, and confined spaces.
Qualifications:
Diploma / ITI / Technical Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Fitter, or Industrial Mechanics.
Trade certification or technical training is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum
2-5 years
of experience as a Mechanical Technician in:
+ Tobacco processing, FMCG, food processing, or industrial manufacturing plants.
Experience in continuous process or agro-processing industries is an advantage.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and equipment.
Hands-on experience with:
+ Conveyors and material handling systems
+ Gearboxes, bearings, and rotating equipment
+ Pumps, compressors, and fans Knowledge of preventive maintenance and shutdown activities.
Basic understanding of pneumatics and hydraulics.

Ability to work under pressure and respond to breakdowns.
