The Mechanical (Hydraulic) Engineer is responsible for the design review, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems associated with
water and wastewater pumping stations
. The role involves ensuring that all hydraulic and mechanical work is executed in accordance with design specifications, project requirements, and relevant codes and standards. The engineer coordinates between design, procurement, and construction teams to deliver technically sound and reliable pumping systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Review, Technical & Installation Support
Review and interpret design drawings, hydraulic calculations, and technical specifications for pumping station systems.
Evaluate pump selection, head loss calculations, and piping layouts for optimal hydraulic performance.
Ensure design compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and relevant international standards (e.g., ASME, API, AWWA, BS EN).
Review vendor submittals, equipment data sheets, and shop drawings for mechanical equipment and piping systems.
Oversee and supervise mechanical works related to pumps, valves, piping networks, fittings, and associated equipment including alignments
Conduct site inspections and ensure installation complies with quality and safety standards.
Prepare material requisitions and technical evaluations for pumps, valves, pipes and other mechanical equipment, etc.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers for technical clarifications and equipment selection.
Review and approve factory acceptance tests (FAT) and performance data sheets.
Prepare method statements, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans) review, and technical reports.
Maintain as-built documentation, equipment manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
Prepare and execute testing and commissioning procedures for pumps, valves, and other equipment for mechanical systems.
Conduct hydrostatic, leak, and performance tests for piping and pumping systems, assist in trouble shooting and coordinate with electrical & instrumentation teams.
Ensure all mechanical work is performed in accordance with project quality standards and HSE requirements. Conduct risk assessments and enforce safe work practices
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (specialization in hydraulics preferred).
Minimum
15 years of experience
in mechanical and hydraulic systems for water or wastewater pumping station projects.
Strong knowledge of centrifugal and submersible pumps, valves, piping systems, and hydraulic calculations, analysis and modeling.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Hydraulic modeling software (e.g., Water CAD, EPANET), and MS Office.
Experience working with international codes and standards (AWWA, ASME, API, BS EN, ISO), proficiency in CAD and Hydraulic modeling software.
