Mechanical Cost Control Engineer - EPC Projects
Location: Ruwais - Site
Industry: EPC - Oil & Gas / Industrial Projects
Job Purpose:
To effectively monitor, control, and report project costs, ensuring alignment with the approved budgets for mechanical works within EPC projects. The role supports project execution teams by providing accurate cost data and forecasts, aiding informed decision-making and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Control & Monitoring:
Develop and maintain detailed project cost reports for mechanical disciplines.
Track project expenditure against the budget, including commitments, actuals, and forecasts.
Monitor cost trends, perform variance analysis, and provide early warnings of potential cost overruns.
Identify areas of potential cost savings and support value engineering initiatives.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting:
Assist in developing project budgets during the tender and execution phases.
Update cost forecasts regularly in line with project progress, market trends, and risk changes.
Participate in preparing cash flow forecasts and financial planning documents.
3. Cost Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc cost reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Provide detailed cost breakdowns by WBS, cost codes, and project phases (engineering, procurement, construction).
Ensure timely and accurate reporting in compliance with corporate procedures.
4. Interface with Project Teams:
Coordinate closely with engineering, procurement, planning, and construction teams to gather inputs for cost updates.
Participate in project review meetings and provide cost-related insights.
Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to track committed costs and delivery milestones.
5. Change Management:
Evaluate cost impact of design changes, scope variations, and contractual claims.
Support preparation of cost-related documentation for change orders and variation submissions.
Maintain a change register for mechanical scope and update forecasts accordingly.
6. Risk & Contingency Management:
Assist in identifying cost-related risks and opportunities.
Maintain risk registers with quantification of financial impact.
Propose contingency allocation and management strategies.

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
Experience:
5-12 years of experience in cost control in EPC projects.
Strong exposure to mechanical packages (piping, static/rotating equipment etc.).
Previous experience in oil & gas, energy, or heavy industrial projects preferred.
